Dax Shepard confessed his wife, Kristen Bell, initially couldn't get on board with the actor's friendship with his ex Briegh Morrison. "I think initially when Kristen and I started dating, you were still coming over a lot because my mom was living at my house. You were around even in like the first month or two we were dating," Shepard, 50, recalled to Morrison during the Tuesday, October 21, Mom's Car segment of his "Armchair Expert" podcast. "And she initially was like, 'This is really wild. I'm not friends with any of my exes. I don't hang out with any.' And I'm like, 'I'm friends with all mine pretty much.'" He continued, "Over time, she got super comfortable with it and absolutely at ease with it." Shepard admitted that he never thought he would be able to find a deep connection with another woman after his split from Morrison. 'Dateline' Chimes In on Kristen Bell's Controversial Anniversary Post "The breakup was manageable, but I will say, for a while, I did think, 'Well, I'll never be in love with someone again in that way,'" he said. "I had a deep fear. I'm like, 'Oh, I don't think I'll ever really feel the way I felt about Briegh with anybody.' I was quite scared of that." Morrison agreed that the breakup was particularly difficult, especially because she thought she and Shepard would go the distance after several years of dating and planning out their lives together. "One of the hardest things about when we broke up was that I really had my head around we were gonna have kids," Morrison said. "We had a house now. [It] was gonna be this thing that I want. I was getting on in years." Shepard admitted he was "disoriented for a while" post-breakup, but wished Morrison the best. He described both he and Morrison as "the kind of people that stay friends with their exes." The Punk'd alum's life changed when he first met Bell, 45, at a dinner party in 2007. They crossed paths again two weeks later at a Detroit Red Wings hockey game where they bonded over both being from Michigan. Shepard popped the question to Bell in 2009 after two years of dating. They welcomed their first daughter, Lincoln, now 12, in 2013 and got married that same year. Their second daughter, Delta, now 10, arrived in 2014. The Good Place alum eventually came around to the idea of Shepard remaining friends with Morrison. "Something that you guys [both] have that I value so much is I think you two above any other people I've ever met, you have your opinions and your position, but you're really able to listen to another point of view and consider it and integrate it," Shepard said of Morrison and Bell. "Neither of you guys are, like, stuck. You're very fluid. ... for me it's an imperative quality."
