Because in the words of Mariah Carey, Why you so obsessed with me? There have been many examples of one-sided celebrity beefs over the years - some more cringeworthy than others. So, without further ado, here are a few of the most notable. 1. See our Taylor Swift Discussions The Eminem/Mariah beef began in the early 2000s when Eminem claimed on multiple songs that he and Mariah had a romantic relationship. Mariah denied this, and things escalated from there as rumors swirled that Em was sitting on voicemails from Mariah that could prove otherwise. Mariah's then-husband, Nick Cannon, was also brought into the drama. Dave Hogan / Getty Images As Eminem continued bringing Mariah and Nick up in public, Mariah pretty much left him to do his thing, once telling the New York Daily News, "I don't know what the hell he's doing. It's a little excessive," which is honestly hilarious. In 2009, she subtly (or not so subtly) hit back with her now iconic diss track, "Obsessed," which was accompanied by a music video famously featuring Mariah dressed as a man who looked a lot like Eminem. The lyrics - all about someone being so obsessed with you that they'd lie about having had sex with you - pretty much say it all, and Em promptly hit back with another diss track called "The Warning." Genius / Via genius.com From this point, Mariah pretty much ignored Em's existence. And to add insult to injury, the feud clearly meant so little to her that it didn't get a single mention in the 350+ pages of her 2020 memoir, The Meaning of Mariah Carey. No notes. Literally. But, for now, the apparent beef appears to be coming from Taylor's side of things, with little to no hostility from Charli (so far). For context, Charli's 2024 Brat featured a song called "Sympathy is a knife," which is about Charli's experience of feeling insecure around someone else in the industry whose talent and success she seemingly admires. You can read the full lyrics here, but off the back of Taylor's relationship with Charli's good friend Matty Healy, the song was widely speculated to be inspired, at least partly, by Taylor. It's also important to note that Taylor and Charli go back a long way and have previously been supportive of one another's work, which is why many people were confused this month when Taylor dropped her scathing new diss track, "Actually Romantic." Amy Sussman / Getty Images The new song, which seems like it might be a play on Charli's 2024 song "Everything is romantic," includes some pretty blunt lyrics all about seemingly finding a fellow musician's dislike of her "sweet" and "romantic." Genius / Via genius.com You can read the full lyrics here, but the signs would suggest that Taylor may not be Charli's biggest fan right now. Charli has not responded or said anything negative about Taylor since the song came out (she was accused of liking a shady post about Taylor on IG, but her like no longer appears to be there). Who knows what she might be cooking up in response? Watch this space. Nbc / Getty Images 3. Matthew Perry vs. Keanu Reeves Phillip Faraone / Getty Images, Craig Barritt / Getty Images Before his death in October 2023, Matthew published his memoir, Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing, in which he made a number of personal revelations - including what seemed to be a surprising disdain for Keanu. While mourning the death of his former co-star River Phoenix, Matthew wrote: "It always seems to be the really talented guys who go down. Why is it that the original thinkers like River Phoenix and Heath Ledger die, but Keanu Reeves still walks among us?" The comment could've been brushed off as just a little odd, if not for the fact that he repeated it later in the book while recalling Chris Farley's death. "I punched a hole through Jennifer Aniston's dressing room wall when I found out. Keanu Reeves walks among us," Matthew wrote. Frederick M.
