In what might be the most egregious example on this list, Ving Rhames reportedly made $7.7 million to appear in Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol for ~39 seconds. It was basically a cameo, coming around two hours into the film; Rhames was on set for two days. Paramount Pictures 2. This is an estimate, but Parade reported that Samuel L. Jackson made BANK in the Marvel movies he only had cameos in, guessing his salary around $2-3 million for what was usually a single end-credits scene. Marvel / Via youtube.com 3. The Hollywood Reporter claimed that Michael Keaton was paid $2 million to reprise his role as Batman in a "glorified cameo" in Batgirl, which ended up being shelved and never released. This was described as about a week's worth of work. He'd later appear as Batman in The Flash. Warner Bros. / courtesy Everett Collection 4. Benicio del Toro was reportedly paid $5 million for American Gangster even though he wasn't even in the film. This was thanks to a "pay or play" deal, which essentially means an actor will be paid their negotiated rate whether or not the project moves forward. This also includes if an actor is replaced; in this case, the film was in limbo for several years before it was revived with a new director. Russel Crowe was ultimately cast in del Toro's role in the film. Dominik Bindl / Getty Images 5. Because the project was shelved for a few years, Denzel Washington, the movie's star, also received his negotiated fee for the version of the movie that never happened. This was much higher at $20 million. He was then paid again when he actually filmed the role, meaning the initial $20 million was for no work at all. Universal/Courtesy Everett Collection 6. Nicolas Cage was also reported to have been paid for Superman Lives, despite the project getting shelved, due to a pay-or-play deal. His salary was apparently $20 million; we can't confirm he got this, but if he did, that's a massive payday. Marcus Ingram / Getty Images for The Surfer 7. Sean Connery made $250k for a day of filming on Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves (he'd initially requested $1 million); he appeared onscreen for about a minute. Now, that's not wild compared to others on this list, but this was 1991 - this is over half a million dollars today, and it was a literal day's work. However, to give Connery some credit here, he donated his salary to a hospital. Morgan Creek Productions / Via youtube.com 8. Charlie Sheen also made $250k for appearing in Scary Movie 5. It's unclear how long filming took, but he appears in only about three minutes of the film along with Lindsay Lohan. He also reportedly donated his salary, giving $100k to Lohan for her financial issues and donating the rest. Brad Grey Pictures / Via youtube.com 9. Considering he was returning to his Oscar-winning role of Hannibal Lecter, Anthony Hopkins was paid big bucks for appearing in the sequel Red Dragon. He was in about 25 minutes of the film and reportedly made around $15 million. This is $600,000 per minute - most of which took place in a single location (Lecter's cell). Hopkins later expressed regret for appearing in the film, which was no critical darling. Universal/Courtesy Everett Collection 10. Jared Leto reportedly received $7 million for appearing in Suicide Squad. However, despite his high salary and overhyped performance, he actually only appeared in a couple scenes in the entire film - totaling, as one Reddit user found, a little over seven minutes. Warner Bros. / Via youtube.com 11. Similarly, Zendaya only appeared in about seven minutes of Dune, despite doing a ton of press for the film. She wasn't paid quite as much as Leto, but was still paid a reported $300,000 for these seven minutes. Most of those minutes are filled with Zendaya just standing against scenery and saying nothing (or just saying Paul's name). Warner Bros / Via youtube.com 12. There really seems to be a theme of seven minutes - Cher appeared in Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again for about seven minutes, and was paid a reported $1 million. Playtone 13. And Meryl Streep - whose character is dead in the film, and only appears in about five minutes - was reportedly paid $3 million. Jonathan Prime / Universal Studios /Courtesy Everett Collection 14. Robert Downey Jr., reprising his role as Tony Stark, may have felt like a prominent part of Spider-Man: Homecoming. However, all in all, his screen time only added up to under eight minutes. Only one scene (which lasted about a minute) would've required Downey Jr. on set with the lead, Tom Holland; Tony was in his suit or conversing with Holland's character from afar in other scenes, meaning Downey Jr. could've filmed this footage separately and likely quickl
