Ahead of Resident Alien's season four finale airing Aug. 8 on USA Network and Syfy, The Hollywood Reporter confirmed on Thursday that the series has been canceled. Alan Tudyk, Sara Tomko, Corey Reynolds and Alice Wetterlund are among the stars of the project that centers on Harry (Tudyk), an alien who lands on Earth and assumes the identity of a small-town doctor while developing a fondness for mankind. "We're all grateful for the opportunity. With what we know about what's coming in the storytelling [in] these last three episodes, it creates the perfect environment for someone to come in and watch our show from top to bottom and get a full meal, the whole thing." The actor continues, "When you love something, you never want to let it go. All of us bring a tremendous amount of love for this project, for the people we work with, for the people we work for. And so it's always hard to let go of that. It is tough. I wasn't ready. I'm still not ready." Chris Sheridan explains to THR that he had seen "the writing on the wall" ahead of working on season four regarding this likely being the series' final run. "When myself and the rest of the writers were arcing out the season, we had that in mind," he says. "We wanted to give the show an ending. So coming into the season, I told the actors, 'I think this is probably the last season, so let's appreciate it.'" Sheridan reveals that the team experienced "special, sad days" while making season four with the assumption that the show would be saying goodbye. "To see that possibly go away, to feel that was difficult," he adds. "But also, it was way better than being at home after the season and getting a call, and that stuff you love is gone. We were able to grieve with each other for a year and live through it." Coy Jandreau contributed reporting.
