Remi Bader rarely shies away from discussing difficult topics online, regardless of the negative online chatter. Bader, 30, exclusively told Us Weekly at the 3rd annual World Mental Health Gala on Thursday, October 9, at Spring Studios in New York City, about the difficulty of protecting her mental health from all the social media noise. "It's really hard. But I've said this before, if you focus on yourself, it does wonders for not caring what other people think and focusing on the negative," Bader told Us. "When I just focus on the positive and a follower tells me how much I made their day and had an amazing day, that's what I like to focus on and it's helped me a lot. It does hurt to read these negative comments, but we deal with it, and as long as you focus on yourself, you will start caring less about what other people think." The model and social media influencer is no stranger to the benefits and drawbacks of having a strong social media presence. TikTok's Remi Bader Is 'Uncomfortable' in Body After Weight Loss Surgery Bader has previously been candid with her followers about things like undergoing weight loss surgery, getting Botox, hair loss and more. Despite her openness and willingness to speak on these things, she says it is still "really important" to set boundaries. "I think I've learned in the past - two years or so - how important boundaries are. And ever since I did that, I feel like my mental health is in a way better place," Bader said. "I think it's important to set those for yourself like whatever they are. It's really important and this involves communicating your needs clearly to protect your physical, emotional and mental well-being, creating a sense of security." Bader said she has placed a priority on her mental health since around her senior year of high school. Remi Bader Cleans Out Her Closet After Surgery: 'Denial About My Size' "I made it more of a priority when I opened up to my parents about dealing with a nervous tick disorder and OCD. I was actually surprised, you know, people are nervous at that age and my parents were very much open to wanting me to get help for that and they sent me to therapy and they sent me to doctors, and I feel like that is rare for a lot of people," Bader told Us. "I've dealt with anxiety and like an eating disorder - so many things that I have been open about, and I just think that ever since then, I have been proactive about getting the health I need to get to a better place. So I've been invested in my mental health ever since then." With reporting by Paul Chi.
