According to royal authors Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand, the situation "did not go down particularly well" with the bride or her mother, Sarah Ferguson. _ When Kensington Palace announced Meghan Markle and Prince Harry were having a baby, Sarah Ferguson appeared to shade the couple by taking to X to share multiple posts about Princess Eugenie's nuptials - and not their pregnancy news. _ Prince Harry opened up about his cousin's big day in his memoir, Spare. "[Princess] Eugenie was getting married, to Jack [Brooksbank] and we were deliriously happy for them and for ourselves, selfishly, since Jack was one of our favorite people," he wrote. "Meghan [Markle] and I were supposed to head off on our first official foreign tour as a married couple, but we delayed the departure several days, so we could be at the wedding.
