King Princess was searching for inspiration before she joined the season 2 cast of Hulu's Nine Perfect Strangers. The 26-year-old musician exclusively opened up to Us Weekly about her acting debut after her "special" pop-up DJ set at Hacienda PATRÓN, the tequila brand's two-story activation at the 2025 Austin City Limits music festival. "Nine Perfect Strangers actually came along during a time in my life when I was feeling pretty uninspired by music but was still looking to be creative, and acting was an option," King Princess told Us. "So I just started auditioning until I got something, and I'm so happy that something was Nine Perfect Strangers." Season 2 of the series - which stars Nicole Kidman as the mysterious Tranquillum House founder Masha Dmitrichenko - premiered on Hulu in May. King Princess was introduced as Tina, who meets Masha while attending a remote wellness retreat with girlfriend Wolfie (Maisie Richardson-Sellers). Along with Kidman, 58, the season 2 cast featured Christine Baranski, Murray Bartlett, Henry Golding and Annie Murphy. King Princess said working with the impressive ensemble was "truly a masterclass from some of my favorite actors." Asked to compare acting to making music, the "Cry Cry Cry" artist said there are more similarities than differences. "Acting feels really symbiotic with music because it really is just figuring out different ways to use your body as a tool and to perform and that's what I'm interested in," she told Us. Austin City Limits 2025: Sabrina Carpenter and More Standout Performances Outside of the TV realm, King Princess' blockbuster year includes the release of her third album, Girl Violence, which dropped last month. After wrapping the Austin music festival - Weekend 2 runs Friday, October 10, to Sunday, October 12 - King Princess is kicking off a tour throughout the U.S. and Europe. "I don't ever really feel like it's officially out until you've toured it, you know?" she told Us. "So for me, getting on stage and playing the songs with new meanings and getting to see the reactions of people who are listening to the songs is really cool. People pick favorite songs, and all of a sudden, you start seeing that, maybe, a song that you didn't think was going to be a banger suddenly is as soon as you start to play it live and everyone's singing it back to you. So all in all, I'm really just excited to play this music live and to feel the audience's response." "I'm sure it was an amazing show then," she said of her past performance. "But as a musician and a band leader, I was definitely younger, and this time around, it felt more dialed and I took it more seriously. Six years later, there's just simply more music to perform so we had the chance to put together a set that really felt like it spanned three records and showcased our ability as a band to perform on a higher level." Musicians Who Became Actors: Jack Harlow, Jennifer Lopez and More Not only did King Princess grace the T-Mobile stage at Zilker Park, she also partied with some of her biggest fans at Hacienda PATRÓN - with their signature cocktail, a PATRÓN Headliner Margarita, in hand. "It was the perfect opportunity to toast my favorite tequila with my band and friends and really celebrate my joy of music and the hard work my team has put into this year," she said of the pop-up DJ performance, which took place Saturday, October 4. At this point in her career, King Princess feels "lucky" to have been welcomed by some of her "North Stars" - including Fiona Apple and Florence Welch - and she hopes to set a similar example. "In a world like today's, it feels really good to be making music in some way that feels like it's aiding my community through a really dark time," she told Us, "and if I can bring some solace and understanding to my people, I feel like I'm doing my job. I'm also just so proud to be a part of a lineage of queer artists that have been the arbiters of taste and culture since the dawn of time, so I just feel lucky to live in this person and get to be a gay person in 2025."
