With Halloween right around the corner, I decided it was the perfect time to revisit the '90s classic on streaming. (C) 20th Century Fox / Courtesy Everett Collection Here are all the thoughts (and questions!) I had rewatching this film as an adult: Warning: There are spoilers ahead! 20th Century Fox Film Corp. 1. To start, I noticed the title in the opening credits look like a pair of scissors, which is obviously fitting for the movie.2. Like any good story, an elderly character starts the tale on a snowy night.3. The pastel color palette = a vibe.4. If you remember Avon, then Peg being an Avon rep is so nostalgic.5. We meet Joyce, and she instantly gives bored housewife vibes. 20th Century Fox Film Corp. 6. Is Edward's ~spooky~ house from Halloweentown? Because it might as well be. 7. Those topiary bushes are oddly peculiar, especially that hand that looks like Thing from The Addams Family.8. When Edward emerges from the darkness, I instantly think of Robert Smith from The Cure. It's that hair...9. Of course, Peg has to go into Avon mode, trying to sell Edward products.10. And then he just willingly gets in the car with her? How and WHY?! I have so many questions.11. Also, how the hell did Edward get dressed in his original outfit if he got all tangled up trying on the suspenders and button-up shirt? The world may never know... 20th Century Fox Film Corp. 12. Edward really found his calling in the garden, all starting with the dinosaur bush.13. Joyce gets suuuuuper thirsty as she gets Edward to try her Ambrosia salad. Plus, he becomes the best kabob maker in the whole neighborhood.14. Anthony Michael Hall plays Kim's boyfriend, but all I can see him as is geeky Brian from The Breakfast Club.15. The water bed and scissors were a deadly combo from the start. (C) 20th Century Fox Film Corp. / Courtesy Everett Collection 16. Edward totally crushes it at show-and-tell because he's too damn cool for his own good.17. And then he suddenly becomes a dog groomer? What can't he do?!18. Oh, wait, now he's a hairstylist for women's hair. This man is unstoppable. 20th Century Fox Film Corp. / Alamy 19. Edward has now cut every woman's hair in the neighborhood because he can. 20. Some of the cuts are good, and some of them are SO BAD.21. Now he's a special guest on TV. This guy is taking over the world!22. There goes Joyce being thirsty again as she models smocks for our main man.23. An Edward Scissorhands salon? If only. (C) 20th Century Fox Film Corp. / Courtesy Everett Collection 24. Jim's famous idea to break in and steal from his own house. What could go wrong? 25. The pure stress of watching Edward try to open the door with his scissorhands was unmatched.26. Kim, in case no one has told you, Jim is a BIG jerk.27. And you could cut this tension between Kim and Edward with a knife. (C) 20th Century Fox / Courtesy Everett Collection 28. This whimsical moment as snow falls from the ice sculpture? Pure magic.29. But things take a turn for the worse because of Jim (again!). Can this guy go away already?!30. Peg finally has a moment of reflection, realizing she did NOT think things through by bringing Edward home. Lady, how did it take you this long?31. Also, can someone tell me where Edward got his makeup palette, because it's perfect for Halloween. (C) 20th Century Fox Film Corp. / Courtesy Everett Collection 32. That moment when Edward and Kim share a hug, even though he claims he can't hold her. SWOON.33. Poor Edward, he was *this* close to getting his hands and then his creator just collapses. 34. As the whole town turns on Edward, here comes Jim to cause trouble for the millionth time. 35. Things really escalate as Jim dies, and Kim reveals she loves Edward. The drama!36. Kim convinces the town that Edward has also died, even though he's well and alive.37. And now we're back at the beginning, realizing the elderly woman is Kim! But where is old Edward? 38. Finally, while Kim isn't entirely sure Edward is still alive, she reveals that it never snowed until he came down. And as flurries fly, it makes us all wonder if he is the one behind it all? We'll just have to imagine what could have been for them... Stream Edward Scissorhands on Hulu and Disney+.
