After The Challenge alum and ex-girlfriend Taylor Selfridge's 3-year-old daughter Maya Wharton underwent her second open heart surgery for a rare congenital heart defect, he shared an update on her recovery. "I want to give everybody an update: Tuesday, Maya had Open-Heart Surgery (Fontan Procedure), and everything went well," Cory wrote in an Oct. 10 Instagram post. "I want to say thank you for all the prayers because they definitely were heard and answered. Right now we're still in the recovery phase which has its own challenges, every time you think things are getting better." In his message, he emphasized that his toddler has a hard road ahead of her, but she can handle it. "A new challenge arises, but we'll just keep tackling them as they come," he added. "Maya's a fighter and she's got this." Cory went on to thank those who kept their family in their prayers amid the procedure-and asked his followers to remember other children like his daughter who are undergoing health challenges. "A lot of kids here their situations won't really get better and you see that walking around the Children's Hospital," he continued. "And it's sad. It just made me realize that I wanna do everything I can to help family's out in these situations. The reality star-who is also dad to his and Taylor's 5-year-old daughter Mila Wharton, as well as Ryder, 8, with ex Cheyenne Floyd-previously shared that he and Taylor had anticipated the surgery for over three years. "We found out that she had Tricuspid Atresia when Taylor was pregnant," Cory explained on Instagram Oct. 2. "We knew that she was gonna require at least two open heart surgeries & the day is slowly arriving. I'm excited for her to get it done & us putting it behind us. Also very anxious and nervous for it to happen." The 34-year-old noted that Maya's first heart surgery at 6 months old in January 2023 "didn't go as planned," with her being admitted to the ICU for two weeks instead of a few days. Despite their fears, Cory and Taylor know the toddler is up for the challenge. As he put it, "She's a warrior and I know she's got this."
