Nicholas Hoult has been forced to drop out of a long-awaited reunion with his former X-Men costars James McAvoy and Elliot Page. Hoult, 35, shared the disappointing news via Instagram on Tuesday, October 8, that he won't be able to attend a panel with McAvoy, 46, and Page, 38, at New York Comic Con on Sunday, October 12, because he's recovering from knee surgery. "I'm so sorry to tell you that I won't be able to join you this time," Hoult explained via a message on the convention's Instagram. "Unfortunately, I had knee surgery a couple of weeks ago and I can't walk or fly yet, so I'm not going to be able to make it." The actor went on, "I was really looking forward to it, so I'm sorry. I hope you have a wonderful weekend and, hopefully, I'll be joining you in the near future and get to see you all soon." Nicholas Hoult Earned Double David Corenswet's Salary on 'Superman': Report Hoult was supposed to look back at playing Dr. Hank McCoy / Beast in four X-Men movies, alongside McAvoy and Page, as the trio shared behind-the-scenes stories from the classic Marvel Comics film series. New York Comic-Con wished Hoult a "speedy recovery" and offered refunds to anyone who was specifically attending the convention to meet him. "Rest up Nicholas, we hope to see you next time. If you bought a Photo Op or Autograph with Nicholas, [event organizers] Epic will reach out to you directly for a refund," a message on the NYCC Instagram account read. Hoult previously revealed on the "Smartless" podcast in July that he tore his ACL playing basketball, but delayed having surgery to complete the Superman press tour. He confirmed he was "rehabbing" the injury in hopes of avoiding going under the knife. "I can get around right now, yeah. But if I did the surgery I think I couldn't for a while," he clarified. (How to Rob a Bank currently has a release date of September 4, 2026.) At the time, Hoult admitted he was trying to "figure out" how he could finish filming the movie while he was injured. "That's why I'm rehabbing at the moment. We'll see how strong I get," he explained to cohost Jason Bateman. Hoult is coming off a tremendously busy summer where he traveled across the world to promote his debut as Lex Luthor in DC's Superman. The Nosferatu actor even caused a stir via social media during the Superman press tour when he debuted platinum blond hair. After appearing completely bald as the villain Lex in director James Gunn's DC movie, Hoult surprised fans with his bleached blond look during media appearances in New York City and London in July. How David Corenswet Got the 'Wildest Bruise' on His Groin Filming 'Superman' Gunn announced via Instagram in September that he was working on a Superman sequel, titled Man of Tomorrow, and hinted at the return of both Hoult and Superman costar David Corenswet by sharing a comic frame of Lex Luthor and the Man of Steel side by side. It's no surprise that Warner Bros was quick to greenlight Man of Tomorrow for a July 9, 2027, release since Superman made a staggering $615 million at the box office against a $225 million budget. The movie launched the first chapter of Gunn and fellow DC Studios co-chairperson Peter Safran's rebooted cinematic universe, with future projects about Supergirl, The Authority, Wonder Woman and Batman and Robin in the works.
