Nicole Kidman speaks through her fashion. Kidman, 58, opened up about how she views her sartorial choices while chatting with Vogue for the magazine's November issue, which was published digitally on Wednesday, October 8. "Sometimes it's armor," the actress explained. "Sometimes it's playful, sometimes it's sexy. It just depends on my mood." She continued, "Sometimes it's androgynous, sometimes it's kind of, screw you." Since splitting from husband Kieth Urban, Kidman has yet to wear a revenge dress, but instead opted for a white blouse and blue jeans while sitting front row at the Chanel show during Paris Fashion Week on October 6 after being named brand ambassador earlier this month. She spiced up her look by debuting a wispy fringe that was cut slightly above her brows. Nicole Kidman's Chicest Red Carpet Looks Through the Years The actress added that she views fashion as "a parallel artistic life." "There is commitment to having that piece of art portrayed properly," she explained. One memorable artwork-esque moment she felt came in 1999 when she worked with Steven Meisel while posing for Vogue. At the time, they were recreating portraits by John Singer Sargent that were inspired by her 1996 role in The Portrait of a Lady. She recalled Meisel making her look at herself in a mirror to study the shapes her body was making. "At first I was like, 'I don't like looking at myself,'" she reminisced. "He was like, 'You have to.'" After seeing herself in a different light, Kidman admitted that the moment was cathartic and "great." Elsewhere in the interview, Kidman opened up about her views on vanity, sharing that she doesn't care if she's photographed without makeup. "I love the color of skin changing," she said. "I love flaws in the skin and I love real tears." She also noted that she's comfortable being aged up - or down - for roles. Kidman previously opened up about aging while chatting with Allure in May, getting candid about the struggles that come with growing older. "I've always been a future person, and suddenly you go, 'Oh.' It's coming to terms with the idea that you have no control over the future," she said. "Probably that's to do with losing people very, very suddenly. I have more time behind me than ahead. That shift in the ratio becomes a big thing.... You're just always going, 'What is all this?' The existential questions. Who are we? Why are we here?" The Inspiration Behind Nicole Kidman's Breakup Bangs and Long Nails Revealed She then joked, "My mom always said, 'It's hard being five ten and a half.' I have not shrunk at all. I'll be very happy when it happens." It's been a transformative time for the actress as she embraces a new single season in life. On September 29, Us Weekly confirmed that she and Urban, 57, split after nearly two decades of marriage. She filed for divorce and cited "irreconcilable differences" as the reason for their split. Together, they share two daughters, Sunday, 17, and Faith, 14.
