As Taylor Swift's album The Life of a Showgirl draws mixed reviews, Sophie Turner has her friend's back. "My girl's done it again," wrote Turner, 29, via her Instagram Story on Wednesday, October 8, over a photo of her vinyl copy of the album. Turner's praise comes amid speculation that the album's 10th track, "Cancelled!," is about her. In true Swiftie fashion, fans of the pop star have taken to social media to explain the hints hidden in the lyrics that point to the Game of Thrones alum. For one, the title of the track spells "canceled" with two L's, which is how it appears in British English. Turner is from the U.K. Sophie Turner Says Taylor Swift's 'TTPD' Album Has a 'Nice Grip on Me' Fans also believe the timing lines up. Swift, 35, wrote The Life of a Showgirl in 2024 at the same time Turner was going through her divorce from Joe Jonas. The two married in 2019 and share two kids but separated in 2023. The divorce was finalized in September 2024. Swift explained in an August appearance on fiancé Travis Kelce's "New Heights" podcast that the album was inspired by what she was experiencing during The Eras Tour in 2024. "This album isn't really about what happened to me on stage. It's about what I was going through off stage," she explained. "It's the life beyond the show." Swift also dated Jonas, 36, in the early 2000s before he broke up with her in a now-infamous 27-second voicemail. That could be the "matching scar" Swift refers to in the song. Joe Jonas and Taylor Swift's Ups and Downs Over the Years "Welcome to my underworld where it gets quite dark / At least you know exactly who your friends are," she sings. "Welcome to my underworld where it gets quite dark / At least you know exactly who your friends are / They're the ones with matching scars." During Turner's separation from Jonas and their ensuing custody battle, a source told Us Weekly that Swift offered her friend some assistance. "Taylor was more than happy to lend Sophie one of her investment properties in NYC while she works everything out with her divorce," the source told Us exclusively in September 2023. "Taylor doesn't know all the details of their separation because she doesn't feel like it's her place. All she is concerned with is being there to support her friend. She's letting Sophie stay there as long as she needs and is supporting her however she can." Turner told British Vogue the following June that Swift was an "absolute hero" in her support. "I've always said that my girlfriends are the loves of my life," she said. "The support I had from the women in my life during that time was the most amazing thing to see. I felt so held and so protected. ... I've never been more grateful to anyone than I am for her because she took my children and me, and provided us with a home and a safe space. She really has a heart of gold." Is Joe Jonas 'Mr Perfectly Fine'? Revisiting Taylor Swift's Lyrics While Swift has not confirmed who - if anyone - inspired "Cancelled!," she addressed its origins during her Release Party of a Showgirl theatrical event. "It's sort of a tongue-in-cheek glimpse at social outrage that everybody goes through now," she said. "You can feel canceled by any sort of social backlash that you get. I've been through a lot of discussion about everything that happens in my life and everything that I do and everything I say. So, anytime that people get backlash, I tend to be the person they reach out to."
