Ariel Barner, a single Black mother of five children in Florida, says she lived in her neighborhood for only six months before her HOA began targeting her children. Ultimately, she reportedly received a violation notice from the HOA. This, reportedly, because her 5-year-old son "swung on a tree while waiting at the school bus stop." The notice referred to Barner's son as a public nuisance and ordered her to pay a $382 bill. But Barner isn't the only one to complain about allegedly being targeted in her community. Black homeowners across the country are sharing their experiences.
