Netflix's New Movies and TV Shows in October 2025: 'Monster: The Ed Gein Story' and More 'Monster: The Ed Gein Story' Season 1 The terrifying tale of real-life serial killer Ed Gein is told in the newest installment of Ryan Murphy's popular crime anthology series, Monster. The show takes a look at Ed Gein's upbringing as well as his reign of terror in the Midwest during the 1950s, using allusions to pieces of pop culture that were inspired by him later on, such as The Silence of the Lambs, Psycho and The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. Starring Charlie Hunnam as Gein himself, the series was praised for its performances and outstanding production values. The show features great supporting performances from Laura Metcalf (Lady Bird), Suzanna Son (The Idol) and Vicky Krieps (Phantom Thread). 'Play Dirty' (2025) From The Nice Guys director Shane Black comes this newest crime caper starring Mark Wahlberg and LaKeith Stanfield. The film follows a career thief who gets a shot at the heist of a lifetime, but to pull it off, he'll need help from his entire crew. The heist seems too good to be true, and it definitely is: not only do they have to contend with the New York mob, they must also deal with a South American dictator and the world's wealthiest man. In addition to Wahlberg and Stanfield, the stacked cast includes Rosa Salazar, Keegan-Michael Key,Nat Wolff and Tony Shalhoub. With all the trademark action that Black has become known for, Play Dirty is a killer crime flick that brings the Iron Man 3 director back after a seven-year hiatus. Play Dirty plays it fast and loose in the best way, and also features fantastic lead performances from Wahlberg and Stanfield. Watch Play Dirty now on Amazon Prime Video. 'Honey Don't!' (2025) Honey O'Donahue (Margaret Qualley) is a small-town private investigator who gets wrapped up in a string of crimes that are all linked to a suspicious church. When Honey discovers a client that had just hired her has died in a car accident, she is led down a dark path involving the Four-Way Temple and its charismatic leader (Chris Evans), who is involved in dealings that are much less than holy. This neo-noir crime comedy from one half of the Coen brothers is a hilarious romp with an engaging narrative, surprising twists and a fantastic ensemble cast. Qualley and Evans are also joined by Aubrey Plaza, Charlie Day and Billy Eichner. The film was praised by critics for its rich world-building and character-writing, in addition to its litany of gags and slapstick humor, and Qualley's stand-out performance. 'Smiling Friends' Season 3 (2025) The third season of this popular adult animated series returns, as fans are rejoined with their oddball little friends Pim, Charlie, Allan and Glep. Smiling Friends centers on the aforementioned representatives of a company called Smiling Friends Inc., whose purpose is to make people smile and laugh. As our band of quirky characters carry out the day-to-day tasks of their job, they encounter a wide net of people in need of happiness. The surreal series blends various animation and art styles, including rotoscoping, computer animation, traditional animation, stop-motion, and also incorporates live-action performances. Smiling Friends expertly combines impeccable humor with great character-writing and voice acting, and guest voices have included Finn Wolfhard, Gilbert Gottfried and Conner O'Malley. 'Steve' (2025) Helmed by Tim Mielants - who previously directed Cillian Murphy in last year's Netflix release, Small Things Like These - Steve stars the Academy Award-winning actor as the head teacher of a school for children with behavioral issues. The plot follows Murphy as the eponymous Steve, who struggles to balance the needs of his students with his own ongoing mental health issues during one particularly fraught day at the school.
