Watch: Eric Dane Vows to Fight "Until the Last Breath" Amid ALS BattleEric Dane's struggles with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) caused him to miss out TV's biggest night. The actor explained his last-minute absence at September's Emmys 2025, sharing that he wasn't able to present an award with Grey's Anatomy costar Jesse Williams as initially scheduled because he was in the hospital receiving treatment. "ALS is a nasty disease," he said of the neurodegenerative disorder-commonly known as Lou Gehrig's disease-in an interview with The Washington Post published Oct. 2. "So I was in the hospital during the Emmys getting stitches put in my head." Because of that, Eric shared, "I missed an opportunity I was really looking forward to." "It would have been great to see Jesse and get reunited with some of my peers, and to be able to present in front of my colleagues I thought would have a been special moment," the 52-year-old continued. "I was a really upset about it, but you know, there was nothing I could do about it." Still, Jesse had Eric on his mind at the ceremony, where he handed out the prize for Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series to Slow Horses' Adam Randall solo.readEric Dane Vows to Fight "Until the Last Breath" Amid ALS Battle"We had a really great run," Jesse told Live From E!: 2025 Emmys of his and Eric's time on Grey's Anatomy. "We had a great following, and I loved working with him." The 44-year-old added, "On and off screen, that's my brother." Eric also knows that he can rely on wife Rebecca Gayheart as well as their two daughters-Billie, 15, and Georgia, 13-during challenging times.

We have managed to become better friends and better parents, and she is probably my biggest champion and my most stalwart supporter, and I lean on her." And while his battle with ALS can be debilitating at times, Eric doesn't plan on slowing down his career one bit. As he put it to E! News earlier this year, "I'm going to ride this till the wheels fall off." "My spirit is always pretty buoyant," the Countdown star added, "so at the end of the day, that's all that matters."
