Lester Cohen / Getty Images For some quick context, Travis and Kayla dated on and off for around five years, parting ways for good in 2022. Kayla has since been super open about the split, as well as her experience of receiving harmful and unfair hate. Alberto E. Rodriguez / Getty Images Just last month, Kayla seemingly shut down speculation that she has purposely attempted to stir up drama whenever she discusses her past relationship with Travis.

But internet users have long accused her of throwing shade at her ex, with one notable example being the barrage of hate she received for celebrating the Philadelphia Eagles' win at the 2025 Super Bowl.

Of course, Travis plays for the Kansas City Chiefs, who were defeated by the Eagles in the game. That said, several fans are now convinced that Taylor threw a little shade towards Kayla on her new song "Opalite." She sings, "You were dancing through the lightning strikes / Sleepless in the onyx night / But now the sky is opalite," and, "Never met no one like you before / You had to make your own sunshine / But now the sky is opalite." Genius / Via genius.com Genius / Via genius.com Opening up about the song during a new appearance on Capital Breakfast, Taylor shared, "I had written down the word Opalite because I learned that it is actually a man-made Opal. Opal can be man-made just like diamonds. Travis' birthstone is an opal, so I have always fixated on that, and I've always loved that stone. And I thought it was kind of a cool metaphor that man-made Opal and happiness can also be man-made too," she said as she talked about the song's origins. Xny / Getty Images Taylor also revealed during the interview that "Opalite" is actually Travis's favorite song from her new album. "I think that is his favourite, he loves that one," she said. Kansas City Star / Getty Images But there's one lyric from "Opalite" that is gaining particular attention on X, with several internet users convinced that it references Kayla. Seemingly directed towards Travis, Taylor appears to reference a past relationship of his as she sings, "You couldn't understand it, why you felt alone / You were in it for real, she was in her phone / And you were just a pose." Genius / Via genius.com "And don't we try to love love? / We give it all we got / You finally left the table, and what a simple thought / You're starving 'til you're not," she adds. Reacting to the lyrics, one person wrote on X, "TAYLOR SWIFT JUST CALLED KAYLA NICOLE TF OUT." Someone else said, "Taylor clocking Kayla Nicole was not on my bingo card." Jamie Mccarthy / Getty Images "Did Taylor shade Kayla Nicole in Opalite or am I overthinking it?" one post read, while another user added, "i'm sorry but this is the NASTIEST read." Andrew Toth / Getty Images "SHE WAS IN HER PHONE????!! oh my fucking god. TAYLOR!!!!" someone else wrote.

Meanwhile, after hearing the lyrics, some fans looked back on the way Kayla repeatedly posted about Travis while they were together. One person resurfaced a video of Kayla's numerous Instagram stories about one of Travis's wins, while another user tweeted, "This makes me think of when trav won the superbowl and kayla just had her phone out the whole time in travis' face."
