Two years after adding live CNN programming, the Warner Bros. Discovery streaming service will cut its CNN Max offering beginning Nov. 17, the company says. The decision comes as CNN is set to launch a new direct-to-consumer streaming offering later this fall, and with CNN among the cable channels set to be cleaved off from WBD next year in the company's split. Most live sports programming on HBO Max is also expected to leave the platform at some point as well, with Discovery Inc. developing plans for its own sports offering. While live CNN programming will vanish from HBO Max next month, the platform will remain the home for selected CNN originals, including Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown, Stanley Tucci: Searching for Italy, and The Whole Story with Anderson Cooper. "CNN has benefitted tremendously from its two years of offering a live 24/7 feed of news to HBO Max customers," said Alex MacCallum, executive VP of digital products and services for CNN. "We learned from HBO Max's large base of subscribers what people want and enjoy the most from CNN, and with the launch of our own new streaming subscription offering coming later this fall, we look forward to building off that and growing our audience with this unique, new offering."
