These wars are pretty much constantly ongoing across social media, with no real trigger needed for the comparisons to arise. Jena Ardell / Getty Images And a perfect example of this dates back to June 2021, when an Ariana Grande fan seemingly got frustrated by the way that Taylor Swift's fans hold Taylor's lyricism in such high regard. It's worth noting that Taylor had released two albums in 2020, Folklore and Evermore, both of which are widely considered her most lyrically poetic records. Tas Rights Management 2021 / Getty Images In fact, Taylor became somewhat renowned for her almost-Dickensian writing style during this time, which often had heavy links to nature. Ariana, on the other hand, has always had a bit of a reputation for the NSFW way that she sings about sex in her music - which often evoked the criticism of Taylor's fanbase. Kevin Mazur / Getty Images Reacting to that criticism, X user @bigduaenergy tweeted a sobbing gif on June 28, 2021, alongside the caption: "swifties when ariana sings about sex and doesn't write it like 'he stuck his long wood into my redwood forest and let his sap ferment my roots.'" See our Taylor Swift Discussions More than four years have passed since this tweet was sent, and a lot has changed for Taylor in that time. For example, back then, she was five years into her six-and-a-half-year relationship with British actor Joe Alwyn, who she split from in April 2023. Christopher Polk / Getty Images Taylor then enjoyed a brief and highly controversial romance with Matty Healy before settling down with NFL star Travis Kelce, who she started dating in July 2023, and got engaged to in August. Kansas City Star / Getty Images Taylor's lyrical style has also switched up since the Folklore and Evermore era, with none of her subsequent work quite reaching the poetic heights of those two albums. However, it evidently hasn't changed too much, as there is a song on Taylor's latest album, The Life of a Showgirl, that low-key echoes the Ariana stan's tweet. Matt Winkelmeyer / Getty Images In "Wood," which is one of her raunchiest songs to date, Taylor sings about her and Travis's relationship, and one part of the song directly lifts the Redwood tree reference from the Ari fan, with Taylor repeating throughout the song: "He ah-matized me and opened my eyes / Redwood tree, it ain't hard to see / His love was the key that opened my thighs." Genius / Via genius.com Needless to say, fans have been left tickled by just how accurate the fan's four-year-old prediction was, with a tweet that simply quote-tweeted the original with a screenshot of the lyrics and the caption: "she did it omg" going viral on X in the hours since the album's release.she did it omg https://t.co/pRaiOFRgtG pic.twitter.com/idYwgDuRH0- Wendell (@RhodeToLove) October 3, 2025 X @RhodeToLove / @bigduaenergy / Via x.com Somebody else brought the receipts that they'd jokingly made this prediction about "Wood" when the tracklist was first revealed back in August, with the social media user sharing a screenshot of the first tweet at the time and writing: "Wood paying homage to this iconic tweet."Others have been responding to the original tweet directly, with many playfully urging the user to sue for writing credits. One wrote: "Girl. Your lawyers better be working overtime because you just gave Taylor a hit." "wait is this guy getting writing credits or," somebody else asked, while one more inquired: "so um how much did Taylor pay you.""oh nick collect your royalties," one user else tweeted. Another joked: "taylor saw this and was like you know what that doesn't sound too bad." Tragically, the X user has not been active on their account since March of this year, and has yet to respond to this moment of glory. But you can let me know your thoughts in the comments below!
