The big series launch for Netflix in October is the latest entry in Ryan Murphy's Monster anthology franchise. Monster: The Ed Gein Story debuts on Oct. 3 and stars Charlie Hunnam as the serial killer Ed Gein. It follows the harrowing Jeffrey Dahmer Story and the impactful Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, respectively. Each cycle of the Monster franchise tackles a different true-crime story, following the massive success of the series' 2022 debut. The Ed Gein Story tells the story of how one simple man in Plainfield, Wisconsin, became "history's most singular ghoul," says the streamer, revealing to the world "the most horrific truth of all - that monsters aren't born, they're made ... by us." The cast also includes Tom Hollander, Laurie Metcalf and Suzanna Son, with Vicky Krieps, Olivia Williams, Lesley Manville, Joey Pollari, Charlie Hall, Tyler Jacob Moore, Mimi Kennedy, Will Brill and Robin Weigert. The feature, based on the 2016 novel by Ruth Ware, has all the ingredients of the perfect midweek movie, a delicious cast full of classy Brit actors, a dollop of mystery and a scrumptious 1 hour and 30 minute runtime. The film stars Keira Knightley as a travel journalist who is aboard a luxury yacht when she sees a passenger thrown overboard in the middle of the night. When the crew insists that it never happened, she attempts to uncover the truth and finds her own safety at risk. The cast also includes Guy Pearce, Art Malik, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Kaya Scodelario, Daniel Ings and Hannah Waddingham. The eagerly anticipated third season of Netflix's The Diplomat drops on Oct. 16. The thriller series was left on a cliffhanger, with President Rayburn (Michael McKean) dying at the end of season two. The action resumes in the aftermath of Rayburn's death with Vice President Grace Penn (Allison Janney) taking over, much to the fear of U.K. ambassador Kate Wyler (Keri Russell) and her husband Hal (Rufus Sewell). Earlier this month, Netflix confirmed that Janney and her screen husband Bradley Whitford had been upped to series regulars for season four so expect both to be at the center of all the series intrigue this season. Also on Oct. 16, the second season of NBA docuseries Starting 5 debuts. Launching days before the start of the new NBA season, the next chapter of Starting 5 will once again take us behind the scenes of the world's most glamourous basketball league, but this time we'll be following the exploits of Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Tyrese Haliburton, Kevin Durant, James Harden and Jaylen Brown during the 2024-2025 season. Notably, adding to the drama and intrigue, two of the five stars in the docuseries, SGA and Haliburton, went all the way to the last NBA Finals. On Oct. 21, Netflix releases the sports documentary Who Killed the Montreal Expos? A real gift to baseball nuts, although not necessarily great viewing for Expos fans, the doc examines the demise of the Canadian team who played their last game in 2004. Hall of Famers and former Expos players Pedro Martinez, Vladimir Guerrero Sr. and Larry Walker are interviewed for the documentary, along with former manager Felipe Alou and a number of journalists, fans and team employees who all offer their perspectives of what went wrong for the team. The second season of Erin Foster's hit series Nobody Wants This hits Netflix on Oct. 23. The first season of the show was the talk of the internet and inspired several newspaper columns about the exploits of Adam Brody's hot rabbi Noah and Kristen Bell's agnostic Joanne. We rejoin the action with Noah and Joanne as a still-in-love couple, who are going strong despite how the first season ended. Miles Fowler, Alex Karpovsky, Arian Moayed and Kate Berlant are
