"A full council meeting of all City of York councilors next takes place in November," she said. "Consideration will be given in advance of that meeting to whether a motion to remove the Honorary Freedom title from the Duchess of York is tabled. The Honorary Freedom title conferred on the Duke of York was removed in 2022. We deplore the links and continued associations with Jeffrey Epstein by those carrying the York title beyond the time the gravity of his crimes became clear." _ In 2011, Sarah Ferguson sent Jeffrey Epstein an email apologizing to him for slamming him in the press over his crimes. "I know you feel hellaciously let down by me. And I must humbly apologize to you and your heart for that," the mother of two wrote. "You have always been a steadfast, generous and supreme friend to me and my family. I am apologizing to you today for not replying to your email or reaching out to you. I was bedridden with fear. I was paralyzed." _ When the correspondence between Sarah Ferguson and Jeffrey Epstein leaked to the public, the Duchess of York's representative released a statement defending her. "The duchess spoke of her regret about her association with [Jeffrey] Epstein many years ago and as they have always been, her first thoughts are with his victims," the rep said. "Like many people, she was taken in by his lies. As soon as she was aware of the extent of the allegations against him, she not only cut off contact but condemned him publicly, to the extent that he then threatened to sue her for defamation for associating him with [abusing children]. She does not resile from anything she said then. This email was sent in the context of advice the duchess was given to try to assuage Epstein and his threats." _ Although Sarah Ferguson's standing with the firm is still up in the air, King Charles III and Prince William have reportedly taken action against Prince Andrew over his involvement with Jeffrey Epstein. "The king finally bowed to his son's demands over his disastrous attempts to rehabilitate his corrupt brother Prince Andrew and agreed to ban Prince Andrew from all further public-facing family events," royal journalist Tom Sykes claimed.
