A musical based on the musical Apple TV+ series will transfer to Broadway's Nederlander Theatre this spring, with previews starting April 4 and an opening night April 20. The show is currently set to run through Sept. 6. The show follows New York doctors Josh and Melissa, who go backpacking to fix their relationship and find themselves in the mythical town of Schmigadoon, where the townspeople won't stop singing in the style of Golden Age musicals. While it became somewhat of a cult classic, the show was not renewed for a third season. In the TV series, the two leads were played by Keegan-Michael Key and Cecily Strong. "Schmigadoon is a love letter to the Golden Age of movie musicals," said producer Lorne Michaels. "It's a little bit nostalgic and a lot of fun. We're very excited to bring it to Broadway." The show moves to Broadway after a previous run at the Kennedy Center starting in January 2025. Cinco Paul, the TV show's creator, wrote the book and the score for the musical. Cast and additional creative team will be announced at a later date. In addition to Michaels, the musical is produced by Micah Frank, and Caroline Maroney on behalf of Broadway Video and Christine Schwarzman and Megan O'Keefe on behalf of No Guarantees Productions.
