Watch: CNN Guest Goes Viral for Backflip Fail in Hilarious On-Air News BlooperRobert Anthony Cruz is laughing at his banana slip. After the Savannah Bananas baseball player-whose Georgia-based team is known for their on-field acrobatics and viral social media presence-botched a backflip during a live CNN broadcast July 24, he peeled back the embarrassment of the moment with a quick message. "Hey guys, for the record you have my full permission to laugh," Cruz said in a video shared to his Instagram Story July 24. "I can't not laugh every time I watch it, too. With the sound, it's crazy." And while the 26-year-old was able to embrace the humor of the moment, he also explained what really happened on the morning show that led to his flub. "For those of you that don't know me, I do flips all the time-while catching a ball, mind you," Cruz explained in a separate video shared to his Instagram grid. "Also, a couple months ago, I was at ESPN headquarters and on NFL Live I caught a football on live television while doing a backflip. I have done 10s of 1000s of backflips in my life. I had zero reason to doubt my abilities." But, as the athlete noted, he is used to doing his acrobatics on a field-not in a TV studio. readWNBA's Caitlin Clark Suffers Groin Injury During Nail-Biting Game"When you do a flip, you are looking for the ground while you're rotating," he continued. "I remember jumping back and seeing a bright light in my face and the floor itself was very light. I kind of just lost where I was in the air and wound up under-rotating. Plus, my feet slipped." He added, "Next thing I know, I am on the floor, and I'm rattled. I was pretty confused." Beyond the confusion, Cruz also realized he had "blood dripping down" from his face, which had hit the floor.
