Rowling has seemingly responded to Emma Watson's viral interview on the On Purpose With Jay Shetty podcast. Justin Goff Photos / Justin Goff Photos/Getty Images In 2020, shortly after Rowling's anti-trans tweets and her 3,600-word essay defending her comments, Emma, who played Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter series, tweeted, "Trans people are who they say they are and deserve to live their lives without being constantly questioned or told they aren't who they say they are." Jon Furniss / WireImage Emma continued, "I want my trans followers to know that I and so many other people around the world see you, respect you and love you for who you are."Other notable Harry Potter stars, including Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Eddie Redmayne, responded to Rowling, expressing their support for trans people. On the Sept. 24 episode of the podcast, Jay asked Emma about Rowling's comments about her, specifically when she said she wouldn't "forgive" her and her Daniel in a 2024 social media exchange. On Purpose with Jay Shetty / Via youtu.be The Beauty and the Beast actor expressed her "deepest wish" to maintain a loving relationship with people with whom she doesn't necessarily share the same opinions. "I really do believe in having conversations and that those are really important. I guess where I've landed is it's not so much what we say or what we believe, but very often how we say it that's really important," she continued. Dave Benett / Getty Images Seemingly speaking on the nature of cancel culture, Emma said, "I will always think that's wrong. I believe that no one is disposable, and everyone, as far as possible, whatever the conversation is, should and can be treated with, at the very least, dignity and respect." Emma said about her relationship with Rowling, "I think the thing that I'm most upset about is that a conversation was never made possible. I always will [remain open]. I believe in that completely. I just don't want to say anything that continues to weaponize a really toxic debate and conversation, which is why I don't comment or continue to comment. Not because I don't care about her or about the issue, but because the way that the conversation is being had feels really painful to me." On Purpose with Jay Shetty / Via youtu.be The conversation between the two has yet to happen, but Rowling apparently responded to Emma's interview by sharing a parody video from the satirist, Intel Lady. Sharing the comedian's video, Rowling added the caption: "I'm here for all the spoofs."
