Rob Lowe's former employee dropped her lawsuit over alleged wrongful termination months after he denied all allegations of wrongdoing, Us Weekly can exclusively report. On Tuesday, September 23, Lowe's former employee informed a Santa Barbara, California, judge that she was dismissing all claims against the actor. The court signed off on the request the same day. The legal drama started on July 23, 2023, when the ex-employee sued Lowe, 61, for retaliation, employment discrimination on the basis of disability, failure to accommodate, failure to pay overtime wages, failure to pay minimum wages and various other alleged labor code violations. The employee claimed she was hired by Lowe to be his estate manager. She started work on January 10, 2022 and was "involuntarily terminated" by Lowe on July 11, 2022. "Although [the employee] was hired as an estate manager, she never actually performed the duties of the estate manager, " the suit alleged. "Instead, she worked more as a personal [assistant]." Rob Lowe Jason Mendez/Getty Images Per the suit, the woman was paid a salary and was exempt from overtime pay. She said she worked 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and also worked on weekends. "In addition to the actual work hours, [the ex-employee] also spent many hours working from home," the suit alleged. The woman claimed she suffered from a disability and required accommodation for that disability. Her lawyer claimed, "She was treated for that disability by a licensed health care provider. That provider recommended that [the ex-employee] not work for a period of one month." The suit said Lowe was given the doctor's note on July 7, 2022. The employee was terminated on July 11, 2022. The suit accused Lowe of treating the employee unfairly and firing her after she asked for accommodations. The lawsuit demanded over $100,000 in damages, along with unspecified punitive damages. The ex-employee also asked that Lowe cover her legal fees. In response, Lowe denied that he had wrongfully terminated the woman or that he owed her unpaid wages. Rob Lowe Savion Washington/WireImage His lawyer argued, "All of her claims are meritless. Her discrimination claims fail for a number of reasons, including [the employee's] failure to adequately disclose her disability, her failure to engage in the interactive process, and her decision to simply stop reporting to work." The attorney said, "Even then, she failed to disclose any information about the nature or scope of her purported disability, preventing [Lowe] from providing (or even discussing) reasonable accommodations." Rob Lowe Honors Wife Sheryl Berkoff in Sweet 33rd Anniversary Tribute "Instead, she demanded a month off and ignored repeated phone calls from [Lowe's] staff. [The employee] had no interest in meaningfully discussing her disability, reaching an accommodation or otherwise complying with the law." Lowe's lawyer claimed, "In fact, in discovery, [the employee] admitted she never reported any issues directly to [Lowe] or anyone else in the household. Her wage-and-hour claims fail because [the employee] was, at all times, an exempt employee." In his response, Lowe claimed the former employee had omitted key facts from her lawsuit that undermine her claims. He said all actions taken by him were in "good faith for legitimate, non-discriminatory reasons." Rob Lowe Sent Hand-Me-Downs to Brother After His Home Was Destroyed in Fire He argued the ex-employee had not suffered any injuries as a result of the conduct alleged in the complaint. He also said she failed to use "ordinary care and diligence in the performance of her duties, failed to substantially comply with the reasonable directions of her employer and failed to exercise a reasonable degree of skill in performing her job duties." He demanded the suit be thrown out of court and his legal fees covered. The attorney who represented Lowe, Maribeth Annaguey, previously represented the 9-1-1 Lone Star actor in 2008 when he fought two former nannies in court. He denied all claims of wrongdoing. Both cases were eventually dismissed.
