This is just three years after Avatar: The Way of Water graced our theater screens, which is a much easier wait to hold out on than the 13 years between the first and second installments, all things considered. Ethan Miller / Getty Images Trusting in visionary filmmaker James Cameron, fans of the franchise are basically already in their seats with popcorn for the film's premiere. But what exactly are they waiting to see? That's what we're here to tell you. What happened in the last film? (C) Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures /Courtesy Everett Collection In case you need a refresher, we're coming off a serious cliffhanger from Avatar: The Way of Water. After suffering the devastating loss of their son, Neteyam, at the hands of a Resources Development Administration (RDA) soldier, Jake and Neytiri are just trying to protect all that they have left. Now officially welcomed into the Metkayina clan and aiming to establish a new home, Jake makes a vow to stop running and fight the "Sky People" at the end of the film, setting the scene for what we'll see in Fire and Ash. The story picks up not long after the events of The Way of Water, and as one of the most anticipated films of 2025, it's sure not to disappoint. Who is in the Avatar: Fire and Ash cast? Here's a look the main cast, as well as who they're playing in the film: Zoe Saldaña as Neytiri Jesse Grant / Getty Images, (C) Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures /Courtesy Everett Collection Zoe returns to the role of Neytiri, the badass Omaticaya warrior and lead heroine of the franchise. In Fire and Ash, her character struggles with her thirst for vengeance as she works through her grief in the time following her son's death. Sam Worthington as Jake Sully Valerie Macon / Getty Images, (C) Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures / Courtesy Everett Collection Sam will return as Jake Sully, the main protagonist of the franchise and a strong-willed leader to his family. Fans quickly picked up on the return of Jake as the Toruk Makto ("Rider of the Last Shadow") from the clips in the trailer. This return is vital, as Toruk Makto is known for leading the Na'vi clans to victory during times of sorrow. Sigourney Weaver as Kiri Valerie Macon / Getty Images, (C) Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures / Courtesy Everett Collection Sigourney Weaver is also returning as Kiri, Jake and Neytiri's adopted daughter, who was born from Dr. Grace Augustine's avatar body. Kiri is set to play a key role in Fire and Ash through the deeper exploration of her connection to Eywa, as well as her powers that we got a glimpse of in The Way of Water. Stephen Lang as Miles Quaritch Arturo Holmes / Getty Images, (C) Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures / Courtesy Everett Collection The infamous villain of the film, Stephen Lang's character, Quaritch, seems to be heading for an unlikely alliance with a newly introduced antagonist in Fire and Ash. We're also set to see more developments in his relationship with his son, Spider. The question is, do we really want to see a redemption arc from this character? Kate Winslet as Ronal Taylor Hill / Getty Images, (C) Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures /Courtesy Everett Collection As the Tsahìk (spiritual leader) of the Metkayina clan, Kate Winslet's character will be explored more deeply in Fire and Ash as a strong warrior and guide for many of the main characters. Though we don't know much about Ronal's storyline yet, we're excited to see where it goes throughout the rest of the films. Oona Chaplin as Varang Frazer Harrison / Getty Images, (C) 20th Century Studios / courtesy Everett Collection Oona Chaplin is a newcomer to the franchise as the character, Varang, the leader of the Ash People and the main antagonist in the film. Her character favors human technology and rejects Eywa, which is bound to make the scenes between Varang and Neytiri intense, to say the very least.
