We have been changed for good by the latest Wicked: For Good trailer - though not all fans are on the same page. An official teaser for the movie musical dropped on Wednesday, September 24, offering viewers a first look at the return of Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo) and Glinda (Ariana Grande). The clip also featured a peek at iconic Wizard of Oz characters Dorothy, Tin Man, Scarecrow and Cowardly Lion. Wicked: For Good, the second half of the anticipated musical adaptation, will continue to explore the two witches' origin story - long before 1939's The Wizard of Oz. "Wicked 2 is definitely a lot darker in a lot of ways," Marissa Bode, who plays Elphaba's sister Nessarose, exclusively told Us Weekly in February. "I'm excited for that aspect of it. There's a time jump, for sure, and I'm excited to see [it] visually because I haven't really seen any of the footage yet - how the characters have changed for good or maybe not for good." While Bode, 24, couldn't give away much more at the time, a handful of fans believe that Wednesday's trailer shared a lot of details. Keep scrolling for
MORE: Some Fans Believe the 'Wicked: For Good' Trailer Features Major Spoilers After the trailer introduced the Tin Man and Scarecrow, fans were quick to point out that their identities might have been spoiled in the clip. In one scene, Erivo's Elphaba shares an emotional moment with the Scarecrow, who's wearing Fiyero's (Jonathan Bailey) Winkie Prince uniform. (Per the original Wicked book and Broadway stage show, Fiyero was transformed after a botched protection spell by Elphaba.) The Tin Man also had a similar spoiler-laden moment. Ethan Slater, who plays Boq, posted an Instagram pic of the stiff Wizard of Oz character to perhaps hint at Boq's own transformation. (Boq becomes the Tin Man in the OG Wicked story.) "I'm kind of obsessed with the Wicked movie team not caring about spoilers," a fan wrote via X, sharing pics of both the Tin Man and Scarecrow from the trailer. Others, meanwhile, questioned whether teasing the characters' identities would be a spoiler considering the Broadway show has run for two decades and counting. What Are People Loving About the 'Wicked: For Good' Trailer? Not all fans are upset about the trailer. "The Wicked: For Good final trailer got me like ... sobbing," one X user wrote, with another adding, "Bro, this film is going to ruin me." The appearance of the Cowardly Lion also excited viewers. "Just hit me - of the little we've seen of the cowardly lion, he has more emotion and expression than any of the lions in that 2019 remake that will remain nameless," a second X user said, comparing the CGI lion to Disney's recent photo-realistic The Lion King adaptation. Another fan added, "The cowardly lion's face makes me [cry] every time." Wicked: For Good premieres in theaters Friday, November 21.
