Jason Aldean and his wife, Brittany, paid tribute to Charlie Kirk two weeks after the conservative political commentator's death. The five-time Grammy nominee, 48, and Brittany, 37, shared black-and-white footage via Instagram of their intimate cover of Luke Bryan's 2013 hit "Drink a Beer," which is about the unexpected loss of a loved one. The couple posted the clip on both of their Instagram accounts on Tuesday, September 23, along with the dedication: "For Charlie ♥️" Aldean sang the poignant lyrics: "Funny how the good ones go too soon / But the good Lord knows / The reasons why I guess / Sometimes the greater plan / Is kinda hard to understand / Right now it don't make sense / I can't make it all make sense." Jason and Brittany received tremendous support from fans and friends for their raw duet, including Southern Charm alum Chelsea Meissner sending them "so much love." So so beautiful yall." While Jason has been one of the biggest names in country music for the past 15 years, his wife also has a musical background. Brittany made it to the Hollywood round of American Idol in 2012 while she was working as a cheerleader and NBA dancer for the Charlotte Bobcats (now known as the Charlotte Hornets). Ethan Miller/Getty Images The Aldeans were close friends with Kirk, who was delivering a speech at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah, on September 10 when he was shot. Kirk was rushed to a local hospital, where he later died. He was 31. Following a near two-day search, 22-year-old suspect Tyler Robinson was arrested on September 11. Robinson was charged with a capital offense, aggravated murder, and felony discharge of a firearm, as well as lesser counts of obstruction of justice, witness tampering and commission of a violent offense in the presence of a child. Robinson has not yet entered a plea, but he will remain in custody at Utah County Jail without bail at least until a waiver hearing takes place on September 29. Hours after Kirk's death, Aldean wrote via Instagram: "It's been a hard day not only in our family, but all over the country. Charlie Kirk was one of the kindest, smartest and bravest people I've ever met." The musician went on, "I'm honored to have met and spoke with him on a few occasions. He was a man of peace and wanted nothing but the best for our country and its youth. We might have lost Charlie today but what he has done will live on forever. The event featured a eulogy from the activist's widow, Erika Kirk (née Frantzve), as well as a speech from President Donald Trump and a musical tribute from singer Lee Greenwood. Brittany reflected on attending the memorial via Instagram on Tuesday, September 23, by telling her followers that she was overwhelmed by the spiritual overtones of the event. "[They said] that his legacy was so large, and he had a different purpose in life - it was just so good to hear people say that," she recalled. There was just something different in the room. I knew he had impacted a ton of people, but this does just feel different, his death does. Everyone said at the service: [It's] a revival. It's putting so many people in touch with their faith and making a difference in so many lives." Charlie was survived by widow Erika, 36, and their two young children, a son and a daughter.
