Erin Bates' husband, Chad Paine, had an emotional response to seeing his wife fighting for her life after welcoming their newborn son, Henry. "That last three weeks have been a whirlwind of emotions and an experience that we probably could have never dreamed or thought up," Paine, 38, said in a YouTube video uploaded on Monday, September 23. After giving birth, Bates, 34, developed a severe infection that sent her body into shock. She was hospitalized for three weeks before eventually going home on September 13. Paine thanked everyone who sent prayers their way while Bates was in the hospital. While expressing his gratitude, he teared up. Erin Bates' Husband Shares Emotional Hospital Video Amid Health Battle "We have felt those prayers, and I know that's what helped us get through this ... it's been a valley experience," he continued. "If you don't know everything that's happened, we've been trying to update as this has unfolded." The video cut to Bates' recording a vlog as she got ready to give birth and included a montage of clips of her arriving at the hospital, welcoming Henry and visiting with family before her condition worsened. "Never would we have dreamed three and a half weeks ago, going into the hospital and expecting to deliver Henry and just things to be as it has been in Erin's previous pregnancies, only to experience complication after complication after complication," Paine recalled. Paine was overcome with emotion again and shared that his and Bates' faith was keeping them strong through the trying time. "It's not over yet. We are home right now," he shared. "It started out with going in, Erin knew she was in labor ... and figured something was up when it was just hours and hours and hours in labor. She's like, 'This is not normal for me.'" Bates battled sepsis after she gave birth to Henry, whom Paine referred to as their "miracle." According to the Mayo Clinic, sepsis is a severe condition that can cause organs to work poorly and even death. Now, the parents are both back home with all seven of their children. (In addition to baby Henry, the couple shares Carson, 10, Brooklyn, 8, Everly, 7, Holland, 5, Finley, 3, and William, 20 months.) While Bates and Paines' little ones "really missed" their parents and are happy to have them back home, the Bringing Up Bates star is still experiencing some ailments. Chad Paine 'Overwhelmed' by Support Amid Erin Bates' Health Battle "Please don't stop praying. We're home, yes, but Erin still has complications. She cannot use her right leg for some reason," Paine explained. "The doctors don't have an explanation. They don't have an answer, and they are only hopeful on recovery. They're positive towards it, but they still haven't really identified the problems that've been frustrating, but we've just been continuing to just ask for prayer." Bates and Paine, who tied the knot in 2023, announced that they welcomed Henry in August. Days later, Paine gave an update, sharing that their newborn was fine, but Bates remained in the hospital. Bates "developed a severe UTI and kidney infection," which caused septic shock. "She is currently still in the ICU as doctors continue to treat, diagnose, and search for answers," he wrote via Instagram earlier this month. "We would covet your prayers for this beautiful girl who is such a light in a dark world. We are holding onto God's promises."
