Gyllenhaal's sophomore feature and her fresh take on Mary Shelley's classic story is set in 1930s Chicago and centers on a lonesome Frankenstein, played by Christian Bale, who recruits Dr. Euphronios to create a companion for himself. The two revive a murdered young woman and the titular bride played by Buckley is born. "There is nothing left to do now, but live," Bale as Frankenstein tells a bleached-blonde bride as their monstrous love story and killing spree, with a hint of Bonnie and Clyde or Wild at Heart, gets underway.
