Samir Hussein / Getty Images During an appearance on the Club Shay Shay podcast last year, John, 48, candidly said of parenthood, "I have a certain curiosity about life, and I also know the investment that it takes. And my biggest fear is, as someone who's driven - many times stubborn and selfish - I try to approach the world with kindness and curiosity, but I don't think I'm personally ready, nor will I ever be, to invest the time it needs to be a great parent because I want to live life for all it is." Nbc / Getty Images "I still have a lot to do. And I still want to do a lot. I have a wonderful partner I do it with. We've had open conversations about this. We share the same values," he added, referring to his wife of five years, Shay Shariatzadeh. Recently, John discussed his stance on parenthood again after being asked at a Boston fan convention if he "looked forward" to welcoming kids one day. "From the information that I've gathered, you've kinda gotta look after them," he quipped, before going on to explain his thoughts in more detail. Barry Brecheisen / Getty Images "I'll just give you a small insight into my life. I have been working straight for 43 days now, and I've got another 20 to go," he said. "So if I were to bring a life into this world that needs environmental nurture and unconditional love, I also know that takes time." Mega / Getty Images "I've been blessed with some incredible opportunities. Life has awarded me the chance to do some amazing things, and right now, I want to seize those opportunities. So I don't want to make an irresponsible choice and bring a life into the world that I will neglect. I don't think that's fair," he added. Daniel Boczarski / Getty Images John has since won praise for his "refreshing" and candid comments, with one parent admitting, "I wish somebody would've told me this before I had my first kid." Noel Vasquez / Getty Images "Good for him to know his priorities," someone said, while another user added, "The bar is low but also good on him for making this choice while being a man. A lot of men will make the kid and just assume all that care will come from the mother, while continuing to invest in their career." Xny / Getty Images "If only more people were as intentional and thoughtful about having children than he is," one comment read. Someone else echoed, "I wish more people were as self-aware and honest with themselves."One user noted, "Having kids should not be a societal expectation. Not everyone wants children, and I've met a lot of people who would not be good parents.""In a world of male and (frankly some female) celebrities thoughtlessly producing kids, this is quite refreshing," read another comment.
