Celebrities often ignore their trolls on social media, but sometimes the temptation to clap back is, shall we say, irresistible. Jessica Simpson is back performing music and she jumped right into the replies on her Instagram channel when one user expressed shock that the early 2000s icon was still in the business. "Is she still performing? Who would bother to see her?" the user wrote under a Thursday, September 18 video of Simpson, 45, rehearsing her cover of Robbie Williams' 1997 song "Angels." "If you're in the Chicago area on Saturday I would love to comp you two tickets," Simpson replied. Jessica Simpson Says Ex Eric Johnson Supported Her Making New Music Simpson is performing in the Chicago suburb of Waukegan, Illinois on Saturday, September 20, at the Genesee Theater. It's part of a string of tour dates on the calendar as she wades back into live music. She first returned to the stage in March at the Recording Academy's Austin Chapter Block Party at South By Southwest in Austin, Texas, where she debuted two new songs, "Breadcrumbs" and "Leave." It was Simpson's first live performance in 15 years and she took to Instagram after to thank the fans who turned out. "It was an emotional coming back home to the best part of myself," she wrote under a video of footage from her set. "Thank you for embracing me. You know that I have so much to say, but this lucky voice gets to soar again tonight. I love y'all. More to come." Jessica Simpson and Eric Johnson Still Talk, See Each Other 'All the Time' She later released two EPs, Nashville Canyon: Part I and Nashville Canyon: Part 2, her first releases since 2010. "The songs kept coming, I was so inspired, it was such a beautiful moment. But within that moment, my life turned upside down and there was no way I was going to let it keep me from my purpose," she explained in a video that played at SXSW, according to Billboard. "There was no way I was going to let the light go dim. I've done that before and it really only held me back and made me so insecure." Simpson's return to music comes just months after she announced her split from her husband, former NFL tight end Eric Johnson in January. The two married in 2014 and share daughters Maxwell, 12, and Birdie, 5, as well as son Ace, 11. The two were spotted together in August at Jessica's sister Ashlee Simpson's Las Vegas residency, but a source told Us Weekly at the time that it was nothing to read into. "They are not getting back together or reconciling," the source explained, adding, "It was a family event, and Eric was being supportive. He wanted to support Ashlee."
