King Charles III's godson Lord Nicholas Windsor has reportedly split from his wife following the death of his mother, Katharine, Duchess of Kent. Nicholas, 55, and wife Paola Frankopan (otherwise known as Lady Nicholas Windsor), separated "for some time" after 19 years of marriage, the Daily Mail reported on Wednesday, September 17. The news of their split came after Nicholas attended his mother's funeral solo on Tuesday, September 16. According to the Daily Mail, the estranged couple "no longer attend family events together," with a friend close to the situation claiming that Nicholas and Paola, 56, will "never" officially divorce. Nicolas and Paola married in 2006 and share three sons: Albert Louis Philip Edward (born in September 2007), Leopold Ernest Augustus Guelph (born in September 2009) and Louis Arthur Nicholas Felix Windsor (born in May 2024). Their wedding broke tradition as it was the first time a member of the royal family got married in a Roman Catholic ceremony in Vatican City since the 16th century. "It is with deep sorrow that Buckingham Palace announces the death of Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Kent," the palace shared in a statement to Us Weekly on September 5. "Her Royal Highness passed away peacefully last night at Kensington Palace, surrounded by her family." Queen Camilla was noticeably absent from the event as she was "recovering from acute sinusitis," Buckingham Palace told E! News in a statement. Princess Kate Middleton made headlines for her appearance on Tuesday by wearing the late Queen Elizabeth II's four-strand Japanese pearl necklace with a diamond clasp, which had previously been worn by the late Princess Diana. The funeral kicked off the royal family's busy week as they welcomed President Donald Trump on his second state visit to the U.K. on Wednesday. Prince William and Kate, 43, greeted the president before he took a carriage-led procession around the Windsor Castle grounds with Charles. Charles, 76, hosted a state banquet for Trump, 79, on Wednesday evening.
