The creator of The Summer I Turned Pretty, Jenny Han, and the show's stars, Lola Tung, Chris Briney and Gavin Casalegno, appeared on the Today show on Thursday to discuss the finale, which aired the day before. Following the Season 3 finale, Prime Video, the distributor of the hit coming-of-age series, announced that a feature-length film is in the works to wrap up the story.

But fans shouldn't expect the movie to come out anytime soon. It's still in its early stages, according to Han.

Later on in the segment, she said that the movie's release date won't be announced until next year.

Tung revealed that she and her castmates have known about the upcoming movie "for a little bit.""It's fun that it's finally out there in the world," Tung added.

Han initially confirmed the news during the red carpet celebration for the series finale in Paris on Wednesday."There is another big milestone left in Belly's journey, and I thought only a movie could give it its proper due," Han said. "I'm so grateful to Prime Video for continuing to support my vision for this story and for making it possible to share this final chapter with the fans."AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementHan, who also wrote the trilogy of books on which the show is based, is set to write and direct the upcoming film.

"We're proud of the series' extraordinary success and couldn't be more excited to partner again with Jenny Han to bring fans an unforgettable next chapter."The Season 3 finale, which was presumed to be the final episode and installment of the series, was highly anticipated by fans of the show. While fans were satisfied with the outcome between Belly and Conrad, many who have read the books felt that some of the major plot points were overlooked.

While Han hasn't confirmed outright, it's likely that the film will focus on Belly and Conrad's wedding, which happens at the end of the final book, We'll Always Have Summer.
