Jinger Duggar is offering an update on her friend Erin Bates' recovery after her recent septic shock hospitalization. "I think that Erin seems to be doing a little bit better," Duggar, 31, told husband Jeremy Vuolo on the Wednesday, September 17, episode of their eponymous podcast. "I think that it'll be a long road, but as we follow along with all their posts, it's encouraging to see any little glimmer of hope." She continued, "I think that they're holding onto hope now as she's starting her road to recovery, and so that's just an absolute miracle and encouraging to see." Bates, 34, was hospitalized last month after giving birth to her seventh baby, son Henry. Bates' husband, Chad Paine, revealed in an Instagram post at the time that she developed sepsis after a UTI and kidney infection and was half-conscious at the time. (According to the Cleveland Clinic, sepsis is a serious infection that can cause organ failure, tissue damage or even death.) "After almost three weeks in the hospital, I have never been so thankful to finally head home to our babies," a Saturday, September 13, post on Bates and Paine's joint Instagram account read. "We don't have all the answers yet, and I still don't have function in my right leg, but we are choosing to count every blessing - especially the gift of being together again. Your prayers have carried us through and mean the world to our family." "One of the last posts they put up was of quite a few of the siblings there, helping hold the baby and being with him," Duggar said on Wednesday's episode. "All their relatives [are] just surrounding them and helping out in this time. I think the thing that touched me the most was a letter that their daughter [Brooklyn] wrote to Erin when she was there at the hospital." How Do the Duggars Know the Bates? "When you pour into your kids or you say things, you teach them the word of God, and then that reality they're going to have to live by that in hard times comes out," Duggar said. "She's pretty young, and that theology of knowing that, 'In suffering, in good times and in bad that God allows all things to work together for good to those who love him and those who are called according to his purpose.' That's [from] Romans 8:28. ... When it affects us and it huts up in those times or deep pain and sorrow, that's when the rubber meets the road and we have to trust God."
