Spotify? The new Adam Sandler sequel is a Netflix exclusive film, of course, but the streaming giant is turning to the audio giant in a bid to drive awareness of the project. Beginning Thursday, Spotify users will be able to play an interactive audio-visual game called the Happy Gilmore 2 Tournament, tilting their phones to chip golf balls, navigating moments from the movie, easter eggs and unlocking audio clips. Players start with a putting round before moving on to long-range shots. The campaign also includes video takeovers and voice reads from The Ringer founder and Spotify executive Bill Simmons, and ends with a trailer and call to action to check out the film starting July 25. Spotify developed the game in partnership with MiK Studio and Netflix. "At Spotify, we design every campaign to feel true to the moment, connected to culture, and most importantly, resonant with our highly engaged audience. These aren't one-size-fits-all executions - they're high-impact experiences that reflect how Spotify is a creative canvas for brands," says Ann Piper, head of North America sales for Spotify. "This execution showcases the creativity that's possible on the platform when brands think like fans and tap into culture in a meaningful way." Advertising has become a particularly important part of the business models for both Spotify and Netflix, with both companies experimenting with formats and content integrations.
