Sunday's Emmy nomination was Wyle's first since 1999 for another medical procedural, ER. In his acceptance speech, Wyle said working on the HBO Max medical procedural, which became a near-instant hit for the platform, has been "a dream." The actor thanked HBO Max and Warner Bros. Television, who also produced ER, for "allowing the conditions to exist for lightning to strike in my life twice." He added, "John Wells, thank you for being that lightning." Wells executive produced both ER and The Pitt, serving as showrunner for four seasons of the former.
