"Wow, so it's looking like I'm just gonna be banging on about Adolescence and Owen Cooper for the rest of my life, which, you know, there's worse things," Doherty said in her acceptance speech. "I would love to mention every single person that was involved in making this show because it was the definition of a team effort, but I can't get up here without talking about Stephen Graham and Hannah Walters. You are generosity personified." I wouldn't be here without you. I love you with all my heart." Doherty was nominated alongside Ruth Negga (Presumed Innocent), Deirdre O'Connell (The Penguin), Chloƫ Sevigny (Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story), Jenny Slate (Dying for Sex) and Christine Tremarco (Adolescence). The award marks her first Emmy win. In Adolescence, Doherty plays clinical psychologist Briony Ariston, who holds the final interview with 13-year-old Jamie Miller (Owen Cooper), who is accused of murder, to assess his mind before trial. Earlier in the night on Sunday, Cooper won an Emmy for best supporting actor in a limited/anthology series or movie. The psychological drama also won for best directing and writing for a limited series. Doherty previously told The Hollywood Reporter what it was like to work alongside Cooper, especially for his first acting job. "I hope that I gave him what he gave me. He just reignited that necessity. I think kids surrender to the moment so much easier than adults do. And it really reignited that love of what I do, and actually the art form in its purest form," she said before later adding, "He's 11 years younger than me, so I've really witnessed him go through adolescence himself and the hardships of what it means to navigate that world. And I think it was necessary for me to bring that level of hope into our relationship, Briony and Jamie's." To see the full list of winners, click here.
