The nominees were announced in July, and Apple TV+'s Severance leads the pack with a total of 27 Emmy nominations. HBO Max's The Penguin follows closely behind with 24 total nominations, and tied for third most nods are The White Lotus and The Studio, each with a total of 23 nominations. He got his wish on Sunday before he even had to get dressed for the show. Gyllenhaal took the time to surprise Cooper in his hotel room and also brought him a small present - a small, golden "lucky duck" figurine to keep in his pocket."I just came by because he's been talking about me too much, so I just figured I'd stop it," Gyllenhaal joked.
Some Emmy Awards fun factsAn Emmy statue (Mark Ralston/AFP via Getty Images)When the television awards were first pitched in the late 1940s, they wanted to call them the "Ikes" - the nickname for the iconoscope tube (aka the first practical video camera tube used in early television cameras). The problem? That was also the nickname of popular World War II hero - and soon-to-be president - Dwight D. Eisenhower.
The Emmy statuette depicts a winged woman holding an atom. It was designed by television engineer Louis McManus, who used his wife as the model. Forty-seven other proposals were rejected before McManus's design got the go-ahead in 1948.
Primetime Emmy statuettes are bigger and heavier than Regional Emmy statuettes. They're made of copper, nickel, silver and gold. Each takes about five hours to manufacture.
One of the many Primetime Emmy Award categories that no longer exist is Best Western Series. It was only awarded in 1958-59 season.'The Studio' has already set records and could break moreApple TV+Apple's breakout hit received 23 total nominations this year, the most for any comedy series in its first season and tied with The Bear for the most nominations any comedy has ever gotten in a single year.
The Studio won nine awards at last week's Creative Arts Emmys, meaning it will need wins in three of the six categories it's nominated in tonight to break The Bear's record for most Emmys by a comedy in a single year.
Seth Rogen, the show's cocreator and star, has a chance to tie the record for most Emmys for an individual in one year if he wins for his performance and the show sweeps the writing, directing and comedy series categories.
