Blue Harbor Entertainment has acquired writer-director Evan Oppenheimer's movie and will release it in theaters Oct. 3, The Hollywood Reporter has exclusively learned. The indie film stars Kirrilee Berger (Unsung Hero), Amy Carlson (Blue Bloods) and Jordan Bridges (Rizzoli & Isles). Peas and Carrots centers on New York-based 16-year-old Joey Wethersby (Berger), whose parents were part of a 1990s one-hit wonder band. After encouraging her parents to start a new band, Joey finds herself traveling nightly to an alternate reality where everyone repeatedly says the titular three-word phrase. "People were spouting nonsense at me," Berger says in the footage. "It feels like I'm being transported somewhere." Oppenheimer, who wrote and directed the project that premiered at the Dances With Films festival in June, previously helmed such features as The Magnificent Meyersons and Lost in Florence. Edward Schmidt and Jay Zellman serve as producers. The film includes original songs written by Marky Ramone of the Ramones, Lee Ranaldo of Sonic Youth and Ryan Miller of Guster. Co-starring in Peas and Carrots are Andrew Polk (Armageddon Time), Kelly McAndrew (Orange Is the New Black), Talia Oppenheimer (The Magnificent Meyersons), Callum Vinson (Long Bright River), Laurissa Romain (Top Five), Dan Thompson (A New York Story), Gabriel Rush (Moonrise Kingdom), Angel Desai (NCIS: New Orleans), Ajay Naidu (Office Space) and Faith Gitchell. Blue Harbor Entertainment is a distributor for indie titles. It is led by Amanda Sherwin, Mike Messina and Seth Needle. "I'm delighted to be partnering with Blue Harbor on this movie," says Oppenheimer. "Amanda Sherwin and I worked together several years ago on Lost in Florence, and it was a wonderful experience. I have absolute confidence that Amanda, Mike and Seth are the best people to launch Peas and Carrots out into the world." Adds Blue Harbor in its own statement, "We were immediately taken by the humor, heart and originality of Peas and Carrots. Evan has crafted a family comedy that is as inventive as it is heartfelt, and it's a privilege to be working alongside him again. We're thrilled to bring this film to theaters and share its joy and energy with audiences everywhere." Oppenheimer recalls meeting Ramone and that the drummer asked about the family band's music in Peas and Carrots. "Marky asked about the songs in the movie," the filmmaker says. "Marky, along with Roy Rosental, turned my minimal chorus into a rousing anthem."
