Production on the series, created by Donald Glover (who also starred in season one) and Francesca Sloane, was initially set to start in the fall. That date has been pushed back, with no start date planned. Mr. & Mrs. Smith was also set to relocate to Los Angeles for season two (season one filmed mostly in New York), with the Amazon MGM Studios-produced show getting a $22.4 million tax credit from the California Film Commission. Per the commission's rules, productions have to film within 18 months of receiving the credit, which was awarded at the end of March. Prime Video reps couldn't be reached for comment. The first season of Mr. & Mrs. Smith earned 16 Emmy nominations, including best drama series, and won awards for guest actress Michaela Coel and for stunt coordination. Prime Video ordered a second season in May 2024, and Mark Eydelshteyn and Sophie Thatcher were set to play new versions of the title characters. Glover and Maya Erskine starred in season one, scoring Emmy nods for their roles, but were not slated to return onscreen (Glover remains an executive producer). No other casting for the second season has been announced. Sloane was slated to return as showrunner for season two. Deadline first reported the news.
