After months of speculation, Radiohead have officially confirmed their return to the stage, announcing a five-city European residency that marks their first live performances since 2018. The band will play 20 shows across Madrid, Bologna, London, Copenhagen, and Berlin this November and December, four nights in each city. The announcement arrives after a string of cryptic teasers - including flyers plastered in European capitals and the formation of a new company, RHEUK25 LLP, earlier this year - fueled rumors of a reunion. In a message to fans, drummer Philip Selway explained how the return came about: "Last year, we got together to rehearse, just for the hell of it. After a seven year pause, it felt really good to play the songs again and reconnect with a musical identity that has become lodged deep inside all five of us. It also made us want to play some shows together, so we hope you can make it to one of the upcoming dates. For now, it will just be these ones but who knows where this will all lead." The tour schedule includes four nights at London's O2 Arena, alongside multi-night runs in Madrid, Bologna, Copenhagen, and Berlin. It marks the group's first live shows since closing out their A Moon Shaped Pool tour in Philadelphia in August 2018. Thom Yorke released Anima in 2019 and toured with The Smile, his band with Jonny Greenwood and Tom Skinner. Greenwood composed scores for films including Phantom Thread and Spencer, while Colin Greenwood toured with Nick Cave. Ed O'Brien debuted his solo project EOB with 2020's Earth, and Selway put out his third album Strange Dance in 2023. Hints of a comeback grew louder over the past year. Colin Greenwood revealed at a festival in Mexico last September that the band had rehearsed again, while Yorke told Australia's ABC weeks later that "we've earned the right to do what makes sense to us without having to explain ourselves." Flyers promoting potential dates in London and Copenhagen surfaced this summer, and a charity auction in Los Angeles even included tickets to a "Radiohead concert of your choice." Though no new studio album has been announced, the band is revisiting its archive. On October 31, they will release a live album drawn from the Hail to the Thief era. Yorke said of hearing those recordings again: "I was shocked by the kind of energy behind the way we played. I barely recognised us, and it helped me find a way forward. We decided to get these live recordings mixed and released (it would have been insane to keep them for ourselves). It has all been a very cathartic process. We very much hope you enjoy them."
