John C. McGinley is the latest actor to (re)join the show. He'll reprise his role as the sharp-tongued (but secretly bighearted) Dr. Perry Cox. He joins fellow returnees Zach Braff, Sarah Chalke, Donald Faison and Judy Reyes in the cast. McGinley's return means that five of the show's seven regulars for much of Scrubs' 2001-10 run on NBC and ABC are back in the fold for the revival, due to premiere during the 2025-26 season. Neil Flynn (the Janitor) and Ken Jenkins (Dr. Bob Kelso) were the other regulars. Braff signed on to reprise his role as Dr. John "JD" Dorian in May, and Chalke (Dr. Elliot Reid) and Faison (Dr. Chris Turk) joined when ABC gave Scrubs a series order in July. McGinley has also worked with Lawrence on the TBS comedy Ground Floor and HBO's upcoming comedy series starring Steve Carell - where his character, like Dr. Cox at the end of Scrubs' original run, is a physician-turned-university professor. The revival's logline reads, "JD and Turk scrub in together for the first time in a long time. Medicine has changed, interns have changed, but their bromance has stood the test of time. Characters new and old navigate the waters of Sacred Heart with laughter, heart and some surprises along the way." Disney's 20th Television is producing the Scrubs revival. Tim Hobert and Aseem Batra, writers and producers on the original series, will serve as showrunners. They executive produce with Lawrence - who negotiated a carve-out in his overall deal at Warner Bros. TV to be an EP on the show - Braff, Chalke, Faison, and Jeff Ingold and Liza Katzer of Lawrence's Doozer Productions. McGinley's recent credits include Genius: MLK/X for Nat Geo, Hallmark's miniseries Holidazed and a guest arc on Brooklyn Nine-Nine. He is repped by UTA and attorney Gregg Gellman at Yorn Levine.
