When will the new season premiere? The first three episodes of Season 5 will drop on Hulu on Sept. 9, and the remaining seven episodes will debut each Tuesday, with the season finale streaming on Oct. 28.
Where did things leave off in Season 4?Warning: Spoilers ahead!Who murdered Sazz Pataki?Viewers finally learn that writer wannabe Rex Bailey (Jin Ha), aka Marshall P. Pope, was the one who shot and killed Sazz Pataki (Jane Lynch), who was Charles's beloved friend and stunt double. It's revealed that Rex was raised as a sharpshooter by his strict father, hence the shooting precision, but he had dreams of becoming a Hollywood writer. He eventually became Sazz's stuntman protégé as a way to get into show business, but the opportunity was ruined after he failed to follow safety protocols during his first major job on a film set with legendary director Ron Howard.

She asked Rex to read her Only Murders in the Building: The Movie screenplay, so he could offer notes as a fellow writer. Internally, he was jealous of how good the screenplay actually was. So instead, he told Sazz that it needed work and that he would help her rewrite it. Sazz learned that Rex sold the greenlighted screenplay to Bev Melon (Molly Shannon), and Sazz accused him of stealing her dream of selling her script to fund a stunt performer school. Rex was so desperate to make his dream of becoming a writer come true that he murdered Sazz.
Rex is ultimately shot by Jan Bellows (Amy Ryan), who had been hiding for weeks in Charles's closet and in the Arconia's secret passageways.
What else happens in the last episode of Season 4?Oliver and Loretta Durkin (Meryl Streep) are getting married in the courtyard of the Arconia, while Oliver's anxiety mounts about another murder happening in the building on their special day.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementLester (Teddy Coluca), the Arconia doorman, recalls his wedding day at the same location. "I got married in this courtyard," Lester fondly recounts to Charles. "Middle of the night with just the stars and the fountain as our witness. I think it's good luck." Oliver and Loretta's wedding goes off without a hitch.
Character Sofia Caccimelio (Téa Leoni) in Season 5 of "Only Murders in the Building." (Patrick Harbron/Disney)That night, Sofia Caccimelio (Téa Leoni), wife of Nicky "the Neck" Caccimelio, approaches Charles and Mabel in the building, noting there is no doorman. She asks for their help to find her missing husband, who is tied to the Caputo crime family mentioned in Episode 9. Charles and Mabel decline, saying they only investigate murders in the building. "What happened to Nicky has everything to do with this building," Sofia tells them. "Call if you change your mind," she adds, handing Charles a piece of paper.
The day after the wedding, Oliver sends Loretta off to the airport, as her show is relocating to New Zealand. The couple agreed to work out the long distance.
Moments later, Charles, Oliver and Mabel find Lester dead in the courtyard fountain filled with blood.
What can fans expect in Season 5? Is there a trailer? The amateur crime-investigating trio refuses to believe Lester's death was an accident. "Their investigation plunges them into the shadowy corners of New York and beyond - where the trio uncovers a dangerous web of secrets connecting powerful billionaires, old-school mobsters and the mysterious residents of the Arconia," Hulu has teased of the upcoming season. "The trio discovers a deeper divide between their storied city they thought they knew and the new New York evolving around them - one where the old mob fights to hold on as newer, even more dangerous players emerge."AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementThe show's cocreator, John Hoffman, hinted to Deadline that this season will look at the contrast between old and present-day New York City.
Hoffman also teased that S
