And as the topic has become more prevalent, plenty of famous people have given their thoughts on the use of AI in filmmaking. Michael Loccisano / Getty Images, Bloomberg / Getty Images Hollywood heavyweights like Steven Spielberg, Ben Affleck, and Guillermo del Toro have all expressed doubts about the prospect of a tech-takeover in movies and TV, while folks like Ashton Kutcher and Ryan Reynolds have supported it. And now, Reese Witherspoon - who, aside from being an Oscar-winning actor, happens to be one of the most powerful producers in Hollywood today - has given some new comments on the ongoing AI debate in an interview with Glamour magazine. Marc Piasecki / Getty Images For context, Reese is a cofounder of the production company Hello Sunshine, which prides itself on producing women's stories with hit projects like Big Little Lies, Daisy Jones & the Six, and The Morning Show. In 2021, Reese sold a majority stake in Hello Sunshine to Blackstone-backed Candle Media. The deal was worth upwards of $900 million and made Reese the richest female actor in Hollywood at the time. Promoting the next season of The Morning Show, which she stars in and executive produces, Reese was asked how she deals with the ever-changing nature of the entertainment industry. In response, she talked about AI and urged people - women in particular - to get on board with it. Stephanie Augello / Getty Images "It's so, so important that women are involved in AI...because it will be the future of filmmaking," she said. "And you can be sad and lament it all you want, but the change is here. It will never be a lack of creativity and ingenuity and actual physical manual building of things. It might diminish, but it's always going to be the highest importance in art and in expression of self." Thestewartofny / Getty Images "I use AI everyday," she added, when asked how she implements it in her day-to-day life. "I use search tools, like Perplexity, every day. I use Vetted AI. Like, if you're buying a blender, it'll show you six different blenders and also recommend the best product. I use AI Assistant." It hasn't taken long for Reese's quotes to pick up traction online, and it's sparked quite the discussion. Many have taken issue with her seemingly dismissive approach towards how AI may impact jobs, calling it "insulting" given her role in Hollywood. Elyse Jankowski / Getty Images "With respect, I feel like it's really easy to say this when you own a production company and won't see your job vanish while your creative colleagues are thrown out on their asses for an algorithm recycling the last century of cinema," one user wrote on X, while someone else suggested: "This is a businesswoman, not an artist speaking.""It's here, yes. But you own your own production company so you don't HAVE to replace human work for a computer," commented another. "So in an industry where there isn't equity for women (especially WOC) you're choosing to use something that'll create a larger disparity.""saying this as an actress is just bewildering," expressed another user. Despite these viewpoints, others felt that Reese's position as an actor-turned-top-producer gave her opinion extra weight, saying: "It's critical to recognize that if someone with her own very successful production company and who is still busy and working at an A-List level is saying 'the change is here,' re: AI she's not kidding around. It can't be stopped, so it must be managed." Marc Piasecki / Getty Images Amid the discussions, a ton of people have brought up the fact that Reese famously championed the rise in NFTs back in 2021 and 2022, only for the craze to die out in the following years. So, who knows what the future of AI will bring? What do you make of this? LMK in the comments. You can read the full Glamour interview here. Do you love all things TV and movies?
