Mondadori Portfolio / Getty Images Though it was casual, Julia's daytime appearance was a big fashion moment, debuting the first look designed by Dario Vitale for Versace since he took over from Donatella Versace in March. Then, just three days later, Amanda Seyfried - who's also at the festival promoting her movie, The Testament of Ann Lee - stepped out in the same place, wearing exactly the same outfit, styled in almost exactly the same way as Julia. Daniele Venturelli / Getty Images The only noticeable difference in Amanda's look is that she opted for black strappy heels, while Julia went for a black closed-toe heel. Typically, two celebs wearing the same thing (even years apart) is a bit of a fashion nightmare, ripe for "who wore it best" commentary. So, unsurprisingly, Julia and Amanda's twinning Versace looks caused a bit of confusion online - particularly after it was uncovered that they share the same stylist. Stefania D'alessandro / Getty Images "Oh goodness ... how did that happen?" one X user wrote under a viral post showing the outfits side-by-side. "I would think someone is in trouble for letting that happen," added another, echoed by someone else who suggested that "someone's getting SO fired" for the mix-up. But, alas, it turns out that the matching looks were fully intentional, and there's a fun story behind the moment, too. Franco Origlia / Getty Images, Jb Lacroix / Getty Images Last week, Elizabeth Stewart - who styles Julia, Amanda, and a ton of other major celebs like Viola Davis, Jessica Chastain, and Cate Blanchett - took to Instagram to post some pics of Julia in the Versace ensemble. And there in the comments section was Amanda, who asked, for the whole world to see, "Please let me wear the same outfit." @mingey / Instagram / Via instagram.com As the story goes, Amanda reached out to Julia to express how much she loved the look, asking if she might be able to borrow it for her own press conference, and, luckily, Julia was on board. So, Amanda wound up wearing the exact clothes that Julia wore, and in a subsequent IG post showing Amanda's fitting, Elizabeth wrote: "Thank you @juliaroberts for your generosity and sustainability 😉 Sharing is caring! ❤️" @elizabethstewart1 / Via instagram.com Honestly, I think this is really cool. As a celebrity attending tons of events, imagine how many times you see someone wearing an amazing outfit on a red carpet and wish you could wear it yourself? Amanda proves that there's no harm in asking! In the comments under Elizabeth's post, Julia gave her approval as fans lauded the "genius" move, suggesting that it'd be fun to see outfit-sharing catch on in the celebrity world. @juliaroberts / Via instagram.com "I love this so much! Setting such a gorgeous example of rewearing and borrowing clothes. We love to see it! Thank you ✨♻️🙌," one IG user wrote, while someone else called it "sustainably chic.""Would love for this trend to take off," suggested another fan. So, with awards season right around the corner, maybe this is the trend we need? Of course, the all-important question: Which celebrity's wardrobe are you borrowing from? LMK in the comments.
