Iga Świątek couldn't hide her excitement for Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce's engagement minutes after her first-round US Open win. "I'm so happy for her! Oh, my God! She deserves the best," Świątek, 24, told ESPN tennis host Chris McKendry shortly after her match on Tuesday, August 26. "I literally saw the post two minutes after I went off the court. I was still on adrenaline. I couldn't believe it." Earlier in the day, Swift and Kelce, both 35, announced on social media that they were engaged after two years of dating. "Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married ," the Grammy winner wrote via Instagram with photos from the proposal. "She posted when I finished," the tennis pro pointed out with a laugh. "Maybe that's not a coincidence. I don't know. ... I'm just happy for her, because she deserves the best." "Oh yeah, I have to avoid just looking at the screen to not see who's actually there," she said. "But she sang the National Anthem at the US Open when she was a teenager. It would be great if she could come and watch some tennis." In September 2024, both Swift and Kelce turned heads when they enjoyed an afternoon date during the US Open Tennis Championships. A few months earlier, the "Shake It Off" singer sent Świątek a handwritten note in the middle of her Eras world tour. "I'm dead," Świątek wrote via X at the time. "Yes, I cried many times during the show. Yes, it was incredible. You are amazing @taylorswift13."
