Nbc / Getty Images Devon Walker joined the show as a featured player in 2022 and was promoted to a full-time cast member in 2024. He often appeared on "Weekend Update" with Colin Jost and Michael Che, and he notably made his mark with some hilarious impressions of famous folks like Michael Strahan, Van Jones, and New York City Mayor Eric Adams. He posted a batch of behind-the-scenes photos from the show with the caption, "me and baby broke up ❤️." Included in the carousel was a cryptic note providing fans with some added context about his departure. internetdevon / Instagram / Via instagram.com In the computer note titled: "wait..did he quit or did he get fired?", Devon shared mixed feelings about his time on SNL, admitting that "sometimes it was toxic as hell." Another screenshot in the photo dump showed Devon seemingly celebrating his departure, texting a friend: "I'm out," beside an emoji wearing a party hat. "To me, jobs in this industry feel like a bunch of little marriages. Some of em last for a long time if we're lucky, but most of them are fleeting. Permanent until they're not. That's the deal. You know what it is it when you sign up," he began. "Me and the show did three years together, and sometimes it was really cool. Sometimes it was toxic as hell. But we did what we made the most of what it was, even amidst all of the dysfunction. We made a fucked up lil family." internetdevon / Instagram / Via instagram.com As well as giving a shoutout to his former coworkers, the 34-year-old closed out the message by joking about his future plans to take a trip to Japan and hopefully bag a role in a prestige drama with Julianne Moore upon his return. When it comes to showbiz, it's no secret that working on SNL is a pretty tough job, and Devon certainly isn't the first cast member to talk candidly about the behind-the-scenes challenges. Notably, his announcement comes just a few days after SNL creator Lorne Michaels teased plans to shake things up with the Season 51 cast during an interview with Puck. However, in a subsequent IG story shared after his initial post, the comic assured fans that "this is good news." Nbc / Getty Images "It was just time for me to do something different," he wrote. "please do not be hitting me with all the 'I'm so sorry' we not on that AT ALL. sometimes mom and dad just don't see things eye to eye." Well, there we have it: Our first cast change for SNL's 51st season. I wonder what other surprises may still be to come...
