Watch: Ashlee Simpson Talks "Humbling" 2004 SNL ControversyIf you want Ashlee Simpson's autobiography, just ask her. The Ashlee Simpson Show alum reflected on the intense publish backlash she received after being caught lip-syncing while performing on Saturday Night Live back in 2004, when her hit "Pieces of Me"-which she had already sang that night-mistakenly started playing before she even started singing her second song, which was supposed to be "Autobiography." "I think it's a different era," Ashlee reflected on the Aug. 21 episode of Pod Meets World. "I think during that time, I mean, the bullying was insane." The 40-year-old went on to explain how the controversy has affected her over the past 20 years, leaving her to feel as if she has to constantly explain herself. "I think it's different now," she said. "For us, we had the magazines and this. Now everything's kinda more fleeting."Ashlee's latest comments reflect what she has said about the SNL incident in the past, which she had previously called "a humbling moment" for her. "I think I had the No. 1 song, and everything was about to go somewhere, and then it was just like, 'Whoa,'" she shared on the Broad Ideas podcast in Feb. 2024. "The humility of not even understanding what grown-ass people would say about you-like grown men-awful, awful things." Keep reading for more celebrity confessions...
