The late Prince Philip allegedly made an off-color remark after his grandson Prince Harry married Meghan Markle. "Once all the formalities were over, we watched as the happy couple, and then the other members of the Royal Family, filed out of the chapel," former royal butler Grant Harrold writes in his upcoming memoir, per a Monday, August 18, excerpt published by The Telegraph. "When Prince Philip came out, he turned to the Queen and said, 'Thank f*** that's over.'" Harry, now 40, and Meghan, now 44, married in May 2018 during a ceremony held at St George's Chapel on the grounds of Windsor Castle. Most of Harry's family, including paternal grandparents Philip and Queen Elizabeth II, were present for the nuptials. The royal family has not publicly addressed Harrold's claims in his book, The Royal Butler, which hits stores on September 23. Us Weekly has reached out for comment. Prince Harry's Ups and Downs With the Royal Family Over the Years Royal biographer Ingrid Seward previously told Us that Philip had been "very welcoming" toward Meghan when she married Harry. "He was very welcoming to Meghan because, of course, she was a newcomer and a very different newcomer," Seward, who authored 2021's Prince Philip Revealed, exclusively told Us in 2021. "At the time of Meghan and Harry's romance, he wasn't around nearly as much because he'd retired. He didn't see very much of Meghan at all [and] he didn't really have a chance to form a relationship with her." Seward shared that Philip was "determined" to attend the wedding, which took place six weeks after the late prince had hip surgery. "[It] is a really good example of him being absolutely determined that whatever happened, he was gonna walk down that aisle at the wedding and take his seat," Seward said. Royal Butler Contradicts Prince Harry's Stories About Charles and Camilla Less than two years after Harry and Meghan's wedding, they took a step down from their duties as senior working royals and settled across the pond in California. Philip died in April 2021 at the age of 99, and the Duke of Sussex flew overseas solo to attend the funeral. (Meghan was pregnant with the couple's daughter, Princess Lilibet, at the time and stayed in the United States.) Philip's funeral also served as a reunion for Harry and his estranged older brother, Prince William, and their father, King Charles III. "It was hard, especially spending time, having chats with my brother and my father, who just, you know, were very much focused on the same misinterpretation of the whole situation," Harry said in 2022's Harry & Meghan docuseries. "None of us really wanted to have to talk about it at my grandfather's funeral, but we did. I've had to make peace with the fact that we're probably never gonna get genuine accountability or a genuine apology." Harry later wrote in his Spare memoir that his argument with William, 43, felt more like a "duel." The brothers, who have remained at odds, reunited again at Elizabeth's funeral in September 2022 after her death at 96.
