America, and Hollywood specifically, has been home to celebrities for decades - but in recent years, some stars have decided to leave the United States and settle overseas. Ellen DeGeneres and wife Portia de Rossi chose to leave the sunshine state in 2024 for a more relaxed lifestyle in the United Kingdom. A local source exclusively told Us Weekly in November 2024 that DeGeneres is "definitely a lot less well-known" in the U.K. but "she's still famous." The insider added that Cotswolds, where the couple reportedly settled, is all about anonymity. "People know who she is but the thing about the Cotswolds is no one gives a f- if you're Kate Moss or the farmer's wife," the source said. "[I'm] in the process of getting my Irish citizenship, as I have Irish grandparents," the actress explained via a TikTok video. "And that's what's going on, and that's where I've been and what I've been doing. And although I was never someone who thought I would move to another country, that's what I decided would be the best for myself and my 12-year-old child. And here we are." The A League of Their Own actress adopted Dakota, whose nickname is Clay, in 2013 with her late ex-wife Michelle Rounds, to whom she was married from 2012 to 2015. DeGeneres spoke about the move for the first time in a July 2025 interview, replying "yes" when asked if the move was a result of President Trump's 2024 election win. "We got here the day before the election and woke up to lots of texts from our friends with crying emojis, and I was like, 'He got in,'" she told English broadcaster Richard Bacon at the time. "And we're like, 'We're staying here.'" The former TV host said it was "absolutely beautiful" in England. "We're just not used to seeing this kind of beauty. The villages and the towns and the architecture - everything you see is charming and it's just a simpler way of life," DeGeneres added. "It's clean. Everything here is just better - the way animals are treated, people are polite. I just love it here." "And then we decided to commit to it last year because our kids were going to go to school." Milian said she loves living overseas, noting her three children are "all going to school in Paris. What better an opportunity than that." (Milian shares sons Isaiah and Kenna with husband Matt Pokora, whom she wed in 2020. She shares her eldest child, daughter Violet, with ex The Dream.)
